Hello, I live in France and I have a gmc-motorhome, there are three GMC here. I thought www.tirerack.com but they tell me ....
Do you have an idea to change my 6 very old tires? one of them exploded last week! is that sellers in Canada can send tires in France? Perhaps there is the united kingdom?
The problem is especially transport for sending very expensive, except into the sea to New York and wait for the work of the current Gulf Stream?
Thank you in advance for your help.

If I understand you question correctly, you want to buy new tires from Tire Rack and have the shipped through Canada to the UK or France.

The problem is that tires are usually more expensive in Canada than the US.

You might look at several brands since a lot of tires are now made in Korea and China. Then see if you can buy that brand locally and have them shipped direct from the plant to somewhere Europe with a consolidated shipment of other tires bound for Europe.

What size tires are you wanting to buy?

TireRack is only about 50 miles from me. I'll gladly telephone them once I know what size and brand or brands you want.

What part of France are you in? I lived near Nice in Cagnes-sur-Mer while on several extended assignments in La Gaude in the 1990s.

It seems that available brands are getting fewer and fewer. Firestone still makes a 16.5" tire in their Transforce line, but I don't know of any others.

As Firestone is now owned by Bridgestone, you might try to check with any local tire dealers to see if they can obtain some for you. It may be more efficient to consider switching to 16" wheels so the availability is much better.

The picture shows those as radial tires. He may need bias tires if his GMC was made before the mid 1975 change to radial rims and tires and still he has the original rims.

The tire size is 8.75x16.5.

I found two tires in Germany (firestone ht transforce 8.75x16.5) but the price is $ 814 both without shipping!

I live near PARIS, GMC is Burgundy (central France) I restored for 2 years since it was abandoned eight years in a field. It has been completely painted, it was a lot of work (I have pictures to show here but how?).
Again thank you for your help.

I talked to Tire Rack a few minutes ago. He said they will ship tires to FRANCE. He asked me to get an exact address and they will provide a quote.

You might want to use PM (Private Message of this forum) to send me your address so your address is not posted to the public Internet.

It looks like the price will be $156 each plus shipping. There should be no added taxes on this end.

Hi JeanLuc, Welcome to the cult.

I can't help you with finding tires in Europe but I would probably push TireRack to get them special ordered from the US. Firestone is the only new manufacturer of 16.5 tires. One caution about buying the tires you found in Germany is the date codes. Tires age out at around 6-7 years max and are then subject to blowouts, tread separations, and so forth. I would expect that a pair of tires in Germany MIGHT have been sitting around for a few years. Just something to check. It wouldn't be a good idea to buy 5 year old brand new tires.

Soyez prudent lorsque vous achetez des pneus. Obtenir la date de fabrication. J'ai fait l'erreur d'accepter un pneu qui avait trois

looks good take it to burning man it will fit right in,

dear sir, it is best to buy new or used 16 inch rims and then get 16 inch tires, it will cost the same as the

very special tires that are 16.5 inch tires.

6 x 16.5 inch tires = same $ as 16 inch tires and rims. get it?

mickey anaheim ca. 77 palm beach, you owe me a bottle of wine. joking. :-)

Thank you "Appie" ... and especially for the ad in NL.

To reply to many people, change my rims 16 "is a good idea but here in France with our huge import taxes, I did not plan this budget and the urgency it is easier to change tires, because I have lots of work to finish restoring the ... ONAN generator is broken, the dirty water tank is broken, the exhaust, the brake wheel, air conditioners are also broken etc. .. .

Rémy Julienne was the propriaitaire who sold once retired, then the GMC was abandoned and squatted for 7 years outside the country.

Is it possible that you could drive to a country with more rational import taxes, purchase new wheels/tires, and return to France?

Kerry thank you, but I'm scared to drive following the explosion of a tire (see photos picasa)! if it happens on a front wheel, I dare not try ... but it is a good idea that I can do next time! thank you Kerry.
