Our thanks to all of you who have commented on the Coos Bay rally. We have yet to talk to anyone who didn't feel as you express here, Jim. The simple statement, a good time was had by all, certainly appears to be operative for this event. Lots of people - and marvelously cooperative weather - made such a great outcome possible. We felt strongly from the beginning day of planning this one that multi-club rallies are the wave of the future. So many of our newer, younger owners do not have a tradition of joining clubs as they satisfy their social needs in other ways. As a result, I think club affiliation will be less and less important as time goes on, but the joy of gathering with other like minded GMC motorhome nut cases like all of us will grow in popularity and in age diversity. The more we can all do to break up the sameness of some of these events with new ideas on locations, programs, schedules, events, and ways to give back to the communities that host us, the bet
ter the rallies will become going forward. Putting them on with multiple sponsoring clubs is really critical as it provides the impetus for people who have never met before to work, learn and play together creating new friends and wider social networks.

My advice for anyone planning a future multi-club, multi-day rally would be:

1) throw away for ever the notion of separate men's and women's programs. The very notion of separate programs is an anathema for the younger generation of owners. Strive to create programs of interest for all the attendees and run these in sequence, not in parallel.

2) Make sure the schedule of events - what occurs and when it occurs - is different from one rally to the next. We must all work hard to keep them fresh.

3) Do everything via teams of volunteers where each team has a clear, written statement of desired outcome. Force populate each team with people from the different sponsoring clubs to break up any notion of cliques, or favorites.

4) Put newer, younger owners on the teams planning the programs and really listen to their suggestions.

5) I favor catered meals over pot lucks both to mitigate the health risks and to make sure all who attend have a great time and no one feels over worked.

6) Make each rally vendor centric. They are the reason we will be able to keep these wonderful things going strong for yet another 40 years so it is in all our enlightened self interests to honor their presence.

7) Keep as much time as possible between all the major multi-day, multi-club rallies so everyone has the option to go from rally to rally if they wish.

Thanks again for all the kind words and for the great work by so many people from all three of the sponsoring clubs! We were told that there were more Cascaders and more 49ers at this rally than had ever attended a one club rally put on by either one before. I think that speaks reams.

Well, I guess that I can put my 2 cents worth here. Jerry and Sharon Work,
this was without a doubt, the best rally that I have ever attended. My
perspective from this rally is one of a presenter, a vendor, and an
attendee. Gene Fisher and Gary Bovee along with the Casino AV staff made
sure that all the presenters had what they needed to get the point across
to very well attended tech sessions. The microphones and sound systems
worked so that all in the room could hear and see the screens, as well as
follow on their PDA's, kindles, or etc. The vendor area was separate from
the tech sessions, not in the back of a large room where any talking would
bother the presenters. I was able to display my products, and to
demonstrate them without bothering any one else.
The Wine Walk in downtown was planned and executed without drama.
Transportation to and from the events was handled without a hitch.
The Culinary Arts tour at the local Community College was another
highlight. All those coaches with full hook ups was another huge plus. I
was very busy helping others with the many small issues that pop up with
130 or so 40 year old vehicles.
On Saturday night, after the wine pairing, I tried to get to the bottom of
the Margarita bucket at the Outdoor Cookout. Didn't make it, but not for
lack of trying. We didn't have Branson, but we did have Steve Ferguson, Jim
Dechine, and several others playing in the Yurt with a Jam session. Every
person I talked to had a blast.
Good food, fellowship, Sharon and Dwayne Jacobson Devotional Talk, Sand
Dunes, Great Weather. They just don't get any better than this. Thanks to
all of you who helped.
