I have seen a few references here on the net to properly prepare aluminum to get best results when painting. I want to repaint the exterior window frames this winter and was wonder what is the proper treatment.

I sanded them smooth and then used SEM self-etching primer followed by another SEM black finish. JimB said the primer wasn't needed I think but I already had it so used it.

I just used steel wool to get them prepped and painted them with rust oleum industrial black spray paint from Lowe's. So far, it has held up very well.
