That looks a lot more like a 1950's bus than one of our GMC's. At least to me.

76 Birchaven - "Wicked Mistress" - New engine, trans, alum radiator, brakes, Sully airbags, fuel lines, seats, adult beverage center... those Coachmen guys were really thinking about us second hand owners by including that beverage center...

Joe I really was thinking about adding it to my fleet. Looks like an RV park around here already. What would one more hurt.
But no.. Need to spend big bucks on the GMC Brakes.

I bet if you painted it like a GMC it would hard to pick it out at a GMC Rally with 150 plus coaches.

Its in, but not fully connected up. We had a few issues with the front engine mount from the donor vehicle not having provisions for the fan shroud mounts, and a previously unnoticed bolt broken in the head where the ac bracket and fan shroud bolt in.

Our family had a '73 Travco 270 when I was in high school. Better looking from the front than from the back. My Dad had me driving it as soon as I had my license. I didn't complain. 413 Dodge engine was pretty strong, seems like I remember it did better than most others on the Grapevine. Body was two piece fiberglass with a seam down the middle if I remember, pretty well insulated. Many fond memories travelling up the coast and thru the rockies in ours. We also spent a lot of time admiring GMC's from afar.

My friend has one, not sure what he paid for it, but he never used it.
It needed brakes and a carb rebuild.
He drove it about 20 miles and it has been sitting at a storage facility for about 3 years.
It could probably be had for a song.
He has lost interest but is too lazy to actually sell it.
His is a late 60's model.

I had owned a 1969 and then a 1972 Travco 270. This was a 27'.
The design changed very little from 1964 to 1980 except for the grille design. Four sizes were offered; the 21-foot 210 (later changed to a 22 foot with a squared off back instead of a slope), the 27-foot 270, and in later years the 29-foot 290, and the 32-foot 320.
Travco was considered the top of the motorhome line in its era.
Engines were originally the 316 Dodge truck engine then later the 427 and 440 engines. The 440 truck engine was different from the 440 car engine. It had an RV cam and different heads with larger spark plugs.
In 1979 Foretravel bought the molds and spare parts in an auction at Brown City, MI. What they really wanted was the rights to the Travco Motorcade Club as they assumed, correctly, that Travco owners would buy new Foretravels.
I was at that auction and I purchased several items including tools, two RV refrigerators, an air conditioner, a macerator, and other things.
Also at the auction were some prototypes including a four wheel drive 27' motorhome and a ATV hauler that was a motorhome in front with a flat bed rear with low sides and a tailgate to haul ATVs, motorcycles, etc. The company's assets were sold and these prototypes never went commercial
A little known fact is that Travco's sister company, Gemini, built the interiors of the GMC Motorhome between 1973 and 1974 in Mt. Clemens, MI. Production of GMC Motorhome interiors shifted to GM's own factory in Pontiac, MI with the 1975 models.
