We have a GMCer broke down on I-44 at the Super 8 in Sullivan, Missouri with a broken alternator belt. All he needs is a replacement belt.
All of the parts stores are closed. He is trying to make Ft. Worth, TX by morning.
The spare he as is too long.
He can not run on the Onan because the converter is also not working.
If you can help with a spare belt call me, or better yet call Brian direct at: eight one seven - 371 - four nine zero nine.
My home phone is: 219 - nine eight eight - 45 four seven.

If your battery is old and you may need to get one anyway, put a battery on the floor and run jumper cables out the passenger
sliding window under the right hood to the dead battery. If you have a full battery in the day time you can get at least 50 miles if
you do an Apollo 11, close all systems. I have done this a few times and it gets you there. This is a good idea if you are at a costco
for you can trade the battery in for a new one once a year or if you have a new battery from costco they will give you a new one now
and you could use it, Just an idea that works for me with the alternators going out. Mickey Anaheim ca, 77 palm playa

Brian Oakes wrote on Sun, 06 October 2013 21:36 | Hopefully I should be able to use the battery boost to get it started. We
have the power steering belt on and the store is about a mile away, so
hopefully we can make it. Thanks for all the help so far. Only 600 more
miles to get home!
Appreciate the help and assistance. I'll update all the info when I get
home.

Both the Onan and the converter do not work. I could get the Onan running by jumpering the control board but the converter still does not produce 12 volts on the Onan or shore power. I thought about the battery charger idea last night but most chargers would not produce enough power for night time driving. So he decided to just replace the belt and do the the correct way.
If he was going to have to spend $50 on a new charger he just should put that money towards a new Progressive Dynamics converter. We did not have time to remove the converter and look at it other than fuses. It might be repairable. It is not a buzz box. It was a single voltage brand and style I have not seen before.

| Dumb question of the day: Does the Onan internal charger generate enough power to run the GMC? With headlights and dash heater/ac fan on too?
|
No
I think it is around 8 amps maximum and is not hooked up on coaches without a rear stand alone starting battery.
