Hi, I am a new gmc motor home owner. Unfortunately my rig blew head and intake manifold gaskets. Where is the best source for new gaskets, metal "turkey" tray or valley tray, and exhaust manifold gaskets. I already had one copper gasket attached to new manifold prior to the heads going. Can I reuse that copper gasket? I want to keep everything the same as it was originally built. Any input would be great. Thanks

My personal experience. Get the thick Remflex gaskets from Applied for the exhaust. Dick Paterson gaskets for the intake. I think Applied sells those also. I have gone other routes on both, they failed. The ones I mention here are holding fine.

Call JmK for the whole package. Save time, save money, save headaches. Have everything on hand before starting. Might add new valve covers gaskets, since old ones are compressed and you will be there.
Get the Dick Patterson intake gaskets with the block-off plates.
Removing front seats clears up the work area, but is not necessary.

I am very grateful for the responses. All told I am wondering how important the route is one the intake conversion. I really don't plan on using it during the winter and it was running great with the "tray" However vapor lock could be an issue once in awhile. I don't have all the skills figuring out all the "improvements" and was hoping on sticking with many of the old parts... rods, valves, springs, etc. The guides might need to be replaced. Getting heads magna flux right now and the intake appears to be crack free but once cleaned I'll know. Again thanks a bunch.

I would suggest you read through the photo album and descriptions by SteveF -- he details an engine rebuild and it covers many of the areas you will be working on, including sealants and gasket placement...

Bud,

Welcome to the group, family, cult and asylum....

I live in Michigan also and if I had reason to have the intake out, I would plug the crossover in a heartbeat. We do use the coach in the late fall and early spring. There is also a coolant port misalignment that you should deal with while you have the engine open.

With time and luck, I have lost track of who is selling what gaskets so I can't be the help there that I might have been.

I suggest that you put together a sig line like the rest of us have so those that might be close enough to help know where you are and what you have.

And, you have joined a community that is strong and helpful. As it reminds me of the way community of watermen are, I like to welcome new owners much as a new owner or vessel would be. So,

May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

Welcome Lawrence

Matt

Definitely get the Dick Paterson intake gaskets with the block off plates. Installation is no different than installing the OEM gaskets.

The The Dick Paterson intake gasket and the rest of the stuff you want is available from Jim Kanomata at Applied GMC.
