Shortly after purchasing "Cousin Eddie" the dash "hot-cold" slide switch came loose from whatever cable it attaches to and I've been stuck on cold since. With cool weather approaching I dug into the dash and found numerous plastic (or nylon) parts broken or out of place. I removed the module for repair or replacement. I don't want to do this again so what's a good solution? Is this a junkyard part or can I buy a new or remanufactured unit? Any more modern upgrades?

I have a McNeil dash with many, many gauges so space is limited.

Thanks

I found one on the Swap list. Thanks again.

Gimme a shout if you're still grandbabysitting. I want to hit the Men's Mall tomorrow for some tidbits for the nerw toad. I betcha you can browse the GM productas and find one that's close. And lemme look at what's in my SOB, it's a P30 chassis from the same era as the GMCs, it might work.

Thanks to all. Looks like I have several options. Several of the write ups refer to saving the OEM wafer. I see nothing on the module or behind the dash that looks like a wafer.

Anybody got a picture?

The wafer is internal to the module. It opens and closes the proper vacuum ports depending on the position of the top lever. Here are some pictures:

Thanks - so in order to save and retain the OEM wafer I'd need to disassemble that part?

More info: On the back of the control module, on the passenger side, look for a bunch of vacuum lines that connect with a bunch of ports all arranged in a circle, like a mini-distributor cap. That's the mechanism that contains the wafer.
