I got the Palm Beach home. No batteries yet. I did notice the fuse holder near the power converter was missing. What type and amp fuse does it take?
I'm sure the Onan gen won't run. That is another topic.
My main concern is hooking it up to my Honda generator to see if the system works. Any advise on what to look for beside smoke? LOL
The water system and propane hasn't been used in a long time too. I'm trying to bring it all back to life. Any advise is appreachated.

I guess "which Palm Beach"?
On the power converter, I'm going to assume that you are meaning the original 12v converter, designed to charge the house batteries.
Should be a 20 amp fuse. If this is the original "buzz box," be considerate that it will boil your batteries and destroy them. It is safe to use, if you unplug it or turn it off, after your batteries are charged. Do not leave it in for long periods of time. Best to plan of purchasing a modern power converter and eliminate this potential problem.
Can you elaborate on using the Honda genset. Is this an external genset? It will take a 3 Kw genset to power just one A/C. I would turn off all the breakers, then engage them one at a time. Easier to find faults that way.

Thanks Tom
I didn't know there were different GMC Palm Beach MH.
It looks like the original 12v converter.
The gen is a Honda EU2000i. Yes, it's external.
I'm not going to operate the a/c with it, just lights, etc to see what works and what don't. I guess i,ll save for a new converter.

I guess I meant who was the P.O. What is the history of this coach? Been sitting long? Etc.
The Honda is a fine little genset, but will not run the A/C. You might turn the hot water heater off while doing your checks. One less thing to challenge the Honda with.
Progressive Dynamics has refurbished 12v converters on their web site from time to time. Expect to spend about $125 or so. Save the OEM buzz box, it makes a fine bench 12 v power source.
Add a little water to the on-board storage tank, and then run the water pump. Good check of house water system.
Right now there is a good descussion on stuff to have on hand for your drive home. All are good suggestions, best is Black List. Many GMC owners out there who are willing to help you on your way home.
Change the fuel filter and carry spares. Sometimes it takes several before all to bad stuff is out of tanks hat have been empty for some time.
Enjoy your trip and relax, everything can be cured on this GMC.

I got the MH from Johnny Bridges. It has been sitting up for quite a while. It runs and drives great. There is a minor exhaust leak. I think it's a exhaust manifold gasket and the brakes are shot. Johnny is giving me a few brake parts and the rest will be replaced including all the hoses and lines. Driving it is the least of my worries for the time being. I'm building a house on my land and the Palm Beach will be temporarily living quarters. My main concern is the motorhome house part. I have never owned a motor home so all the systems are new to me. I'm a aircraft mechanic by trade and a previous auto mechanic so I have some mechanical ability. Mainly sheet metal and engines.
What I don't know much about is how the motorhome is wired. The breaker box is not labeled and I don't have any wiring schematics.
Everything might work fine. I just wanted to know what I should look for when I hook up power and water.
Is there some way to bypass the buzz box and charge the batteries from my Honda EU2000i gen? It has a built in 12V battery charger.

Frank -

The original 'buzz box' 12v supply has been replaced by the PO wioth the assembly in the cabinet. It is a newer switching supply. I've no idea whether it charges the battery, probably not. At least not the chassis battery. If you look in the generator compartment you'll see the cable for the 'house' battery, there was none there when I got the coach. That cable wants replacing, too. We replace our genset batteries every couple of years, I have a takeout here for the coach. It's been on trickle, and I think will fir in the compartment by the Onan.
The AC wiring diagram is in the manual with the coach someplace, and available online. I'd suggest putting it back to 'box stock' and going from there. Since I got it for parts (before I figured out how well it ran) I didn't pay attention to the house electrics. According to the PO, the A/C in the roof works, as does the furnace.
What we need to do is you load up the rest of the Ranger parts when you have a day and run them up here and get the spare, battery, brake parts, and the other stuff that's here for it.
There are several PB owners on here who know more about that coach than I. Mine was a Transmode, upfitted by a long gone upfitter. Finding 'gotchas' has been fun.

Last two POs were me and the guy I got it from. He got it from the original owner's widow a couple of years ago after it sat for seven. fuel lines replaced without lowering the tanks (!). So got to be redone. Newish power converter in it which the PO had a guy put. Also had the guy put a toggle switch on the compressor, no idea why. He hacked the dash wiring in the process. It has a click pump and filter mounted underneath with the tanks both plumbed through it. Sonmething - I susopect a vet - leaks gas when the nose is down. It went to Franks with a jerry can bubngeed to the bumper. I bought it for parts, and driving it hom,e it ran so good I figured to slowly rehab it. Been slowly collecting piecesparts. Some of which left with it, some of which I'll get to Frank this weekend and get some more stuff for the littlwe truck he traded me. Has new flowmasters on it, and new right front suspension. Left front brake setup leaves a lot to be
desitred. Etc.

Wander up Sunday evening - supposed to be rainny that afternoon, can't work on it anyway. It will take you and me to set this battery in your truck, it's a hoss. Look in the generator bay and you'll see room for a big battery behind the genset. The scurvy battery cable back there is the house battery hookup, same battery starts the Onan and provides 12v when the converter isn't on shore power. The converter also trickles the house battery. The chassis battery and electric system is seperate, except for the boost switch on the dash whiich parallels the batteries so you can start the coach if you ran the chassis battery down. Otherwise the two systems are seperate. The heat sink under the pass side hood has two diodes on it, the alternator feeds through it to charge both batteries when the engine is running. Thatr's why, if you noticed., mine has two ammeters fitted.
