Hello everybody, need input on installing the
shift kit, there's nothing wrong with my transmission,
I'm going to change to the aluminum oil pan and since
I have the shift kit in my garage and I was thinking if
it will be a good idea to install it.

Often times fixing something that ain't broke results in breaking something else that also wasn't broke.
The law of unexpected results or diminishing returns- something like that.
Case in point:
Search past messages regarding new leaking/seepage problems encountered after installing aluminum tranny pans.

I have the Transgo kit in my Eldo and it is FIRM cause it is an Animal.On the motorhome it is so quiet and smooth I cannot even tell when it shifts.I think that is the way it should stay.

I'd ask the Transmission Guru (Manny) his thoughts before I did that. I love a Shift Kit iin a TorquefkFlite in a hotrod, makes it shift real positive. I got to wonder though in a motorhome whether I might want the original easy slide from gear to gear, as opposed to shock loading the drive line and trans with a quick clamp-up.

THE PROBLEM is with the insides of the tranny
pressures, valves, etc
does not much matter about the shift

There is a little screw adjustment on the vacuum modulator than can ease that pain a little to shift lower in the rpm range instead of reving high before the shift.I have snapped a few axles and cracked a few flywheels but never any trouble over the 20 some odd years with a transmission in any of my 67-70 Eldos.I have owned and drivin 5 since 1979 2 got rear ended one went for 350000 miles and its still running somewhere.4500lbs compared to 12000lbs is quite a difference though.

Probably good advise not to install it. We put one in mine awhile back and adjusted things so it shifted pretty good but the kick down can be real hard on the trans at times causing a real hard shift.The fix here is disconnect the downshift plug and do it manually. I feel it caused me an engine 3 years ago when I pulled it into low gear by mistake not paying attention to the tach thinking I was in high gear.With a shift kit you can easily over rev the engine . If it didn't have the shift kit it wouldn't have gone into low gear the stock trans setup would have kept it in super. If and when the trans is rebuilt it is coming out meanwhile I will pay close attention when manually shifting down.

Wow,I never considered the downshifting stuff and woosh all that stuff going just too,too far and something blowing apart at the seams.My cars have always been kinda muscle like but the switch pitch and electric kickdown have always remained
stock as well as the vacume modulator.I do know that like Manny says mine does have different stuff like the resrictors maybe not like the Caspro but it is smooth and driveable unless your at almost 5000 at WOT and it gets 2nd.My tranny guy said I don't need a dragster even though I still kinda have one.

Mine has a shift kit installed by the PO (I don't know the brand). Shifts very nice, doesn't hit hard at all, just a positive, quick shift. The only thing I do notice is sometimes at higher RPM in 1st she'll shift straight to 3rd, I have to throttle up to downshift into 2nd.
By comparison, my '64 Falcon will just about snap your neck hitting 2nd and 3rd (lays a nice scratch hitting 2nd).

My last vroom - 340 car - would do that when it hit third... it went sideways on the 1-2 shift... TorqueFlite built by Garrett with a really silly shift kit. It also made you curtsey on downshifts when you stopped. Fun in a ``2700poud Duster. Hard on the drive line in a ~~11000 pound GMC

I would say it depends on the kit being used. One with the ususal hard shift used in musclecars would probably break hard parts. I think there is some improvement in clutch/steel durability with less slipage.
That being said, we used to put in a number of shift kits in motorhomes and towing vehicles back in the day. However they were RV/towing specific- think Transgo might have been the manufactuer. These produced a faster shift with less overlap, slightly firmer, not hard. Also kicked down easier. Never had a problem with those.
Most were turbo 400s in P30 and van chassis, A few 727 TF.
Never did one on a GMC, but I have one in the TH425 im my mid engine twin turbo Vega. It hits really hard and will do more than knock the mud out of the fenders.
