Our friend would like to put a jack knife couch in her GMC where most
people have the stock couch that converts to bunk beds, however she hasn'r
been able to find one that will fit between the sink and the steps. Does
anyone have any suggestions of what you did and/or where she might find
such a creature? She would like to increase the sleeping capabilites as she
has chairs insted of the dinette.

Good Morning
We had the same goal, to increase sleeping capabilities with a jackknife sofa that could sleep two adults. We found this, it's the largest jackknife sofa I could find and at a great price. We purchased one for the GMC and then later on 2 for our basement rec room, they are extremely comfortable.

The sofa sleeping area is 76" long x 51" wide, (the arms do not get used) for the GMC it took a little engineering to make it work. In our Royale it fits between the refrigerator and the 2nd step behind the driver. I had to build my own frame for it and then I had to put the frame on a slide system with 2 linear actuators the move the sofa away from the wall so it can be folded down. After a few horse trades, I stripped a set of dinette benches, overlapped then approx 5 inches or so, cut and welded to make a bench. New foam amd material, it was a fun project.
I did do the foam a little different , which makes for comfortable sitting, but foam needs to be cut back a little on the edges if i plan on using sofa as a bed, which I do not. It was a learn as I go thing. but overall was not that hard. I did learn a lot. Dinette bench has 2 hinges, i put 3 on sofa with one in middle.
I did see that sofas show up on craigs list semi often. But people selling dont always list overall lenght. Also, if you buy one, will you like the way it matches or does not match your dinette? I redid my dinette foam and material at same time. I still have a little trim to work out. but I would do again.
First time I had used the old singer sewing machine that I picked up at a yard sale 5 or so years back.
Foam is expensive, good material can also be.
