Mary is getting a little annoyed.
The cruise doesn't work. The light comes on but it doesn't hold.
I've check the vacuum lines and the ball chain and everything seems to be as it should. I am hoping to have time to tear it down at Branson, but that still gives her a day of "Driving"

This is made worse because I now have all the parts but I still haven't had time to install the Dana Speedostat (c.1973) that I have in a special box in my barn.

Matt

When you checked the vacuum lines did you also check the bellows?

Dennis

Dennis,

Thanks But, I sucked on that hose and pulled the bellow in, so both the bellow is good and so is the brake pedal valve.

I appreciate the thought.

Matt,

Well I was hoping for something simple.
I have read through the cruise control section in the MM -- and it does offer some good checks for the various components.
I can't recall that any one component has been reported to be more likely to fail -- other than the vacuum lines which you have already tested.

Matt,

A few years ago, when I was having intermittent problems with my cruise control, Ken B suggested I move the ground from the body to the engine. It helped. I eventually ended up replacing the transducer and the turn signal stalk switch and now it works perfectly.

Dennis,

Thanks, I had read the MM I have on the drive and found nothing other than "Replace the transducer". Well, that's not going to happen on the road. There is still hope that I can open and clean it at Branson.

Matt,

I have MM X-7525B. Section 12, page 12-41, has a cc diagnosis, followed by tests for the brake and vacuum switches.

Someone at Branson probably has the same -- or I can scan and email. I could not locate it on bdubs list of manuals.

Thanks Dennis,

I actually have that set of manuals onboard. I went thought their checks, but I don't like the "replace the transducer" answer.
I've had it open before, but I was really hoping to not do it at Branson.

I was really hoping that someone would say, "check the ....."
and it would fix it.

Thanks

Matt,
When you get there and it is non repairable then Tom Hampton usually brings a few in the vendors area and I am sure that Jim K will also have one too.

Matt, you might try poking out the fixed orifice in the "A" marked port. I have one here that measures about .072". A paper clip will go thru it. Beings the light comes on you know the solenoid is staying energized so it has met the minimum speed switch and stuff moved, electrically it must be OK.

Oxidized 3 pin connector giving less than full connection. (You wanted the easy spray can fix!) You sure the brake switch isn't leaking or a slightly split hose? When I read my Mopar Jeep manual EVERYTHING is "if there is a problem replace entire module". Nothing serviceable....at least most of the GMC is not that way.
