Tell you a trick - my coach is the first of anything I've ever owned made by GMC which has run more than ten thousand miles without stopping on me. '65 Corvair, 80s Citation all junque. My preference for a working truck is a Dodge, my preference for a working van is an Econoline. At work every three or four years we buy one Chev van to compare to the Fords, I've been doing so since the mid 70s. I have yet to buy a Chev which will run or last with the Fords. Could I of found one of the early body Dakotas with an LA engine in it and a five speed, I would of gone for it. People who got them won't let go of them. All the new ones I've seen are 4 door and automatic, neither of which suits me requirements. To each his own..... or "I rather see my sister in the ho'house than my brother in a Chevy"
Next week, it's gonna be PC vs Mac :)

On that Ranger, keep in mind that:

The Windsor is a bolt-up, Cleveland requires major surgery according to the guy who built this one. However, you run into the same problem as they had with the first iteration of the SHO Taurus (Yamaha engined ones). According to one of the Ford engineers in one of the magazines, they felt there was easily another hundred horsepower in the engine, but no way to couple it to the ground. Even with a piece of railroad iron inside the rear bumper, the 302 will break the rears loose on the Ranger through 4th and paint two black stripes if you punch it. I suspect it will be a handful in the wet.

I always heard First On Race Day...
My own 1990 Bronco has been a truly faithful companion with
fairly minimal
maintenance. And the 351 windsor is a marvelous motor.
Indeed, it occurs to me that a 351 would probably bolt right
in to that
ranger.... all the tricky bits have been done...

Ken,
Lessee -
Which US auto manufacturer adapted the assembly line to auto manufacture first?
Which US auto manufacturer raised their workers salary so they could afford to by one of the autos they were building?
Which US auto manufacturer won LeMans three years running taking positions 1-2-3?
Which US auto manufacturer has never received any loans or bailouts from the US Government?
I'll give you a hint - the name starts with an F and ends with a D. ;-)

Rob M.

| I buy cars based on reliability, miles per gallon, and comfort. The best cars I have ever owned on those measures were Toyotas. The worst I ever owned was a Chrysler. Oldsmobile was alright. Fords have given me more grief than the Olds, but not near as much as the Chrysler. I still own a couple of Fords, but will NEVER buy another Chrysler product. EVER.

You needed a proper pickup - I had a 150 ('81) with a 300 six and the shifter in the floor. Ran it for 500k + miles and sold it to a local guy for $200 last year when the roof finally rusted through and rain fell in on me. A/C was still blowing cold when I sold it, albeit cycling. I put one transmission and two engines init in that period.

Brian,
You challenged the four points but, with all due respect, using an irrelevant point; please explain which of the four points I
raised does the fact that you had two pos Ford trucks address?
Would you say your pos Ford truck was worse than the pos Vega?
Bottom line I'd say EVERY carmaker has produced bad cars.

Rob M.
