RG 58C/U
Mil-C-17D Amend 1
1000'
Nom Charac
Impedance 50 ohm
Keep ends sealed
I'm bringing it to Branson. The box is filthy so I'm not bringing the box...just the spool. Someone make me an offer.

Look on the cable to see if any number is stenciled on it. It might be different from the box.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
RG-58/U is a type of coaxial cable often used for low-power signal and RF connections. The cable has a characteristic impedance of either 50 or 52 Ω. "RG" was originally a unit indicator for bulk RF cable in the U.S. military's Joint Electronics Type Designation System. There are several versions covering the differences in core material (solid or braided wire) and shield (70% to 95% coverage).
The outside diameter of RG-58 is around 0.2 inches (5 mm). RG-58 weighs around 0.025 lbs/ft (37 g/m), exhibits approximately 25 pF/ft (82 pF/m) capacitance and can tolerate a maximum of 300 V potential (1800 W).[1] Plain RG-58 cable has a solid center conductor. The RG-58A/U features a flexible 7 or 19 strand center conductor.
Most two-way radio communication systems, such as marine, CB radio, amateur, police, fire, WLAN antennas etc., are designed to work with a 50 Ω cable.

The cable of choice for TV service now and the last 8 to 10 years with digital signals is RG-6U. The RG-59U was the cable of choice for the cable companies before that and is still sold by some stores. I used a 1000 foot spool of RG-6U when I did the new house. I had called the cable company (Charter Cable) and asked which one to use. They told me that they had phased out the use of RG-59U and were replacing it when upgrading service to new subscribers. Too much signal loss with the new digital signals for cable service.

$660 a thousand if it's Belden and Allied is selling it. $300 would be a fair price for American made, 200 from the Heathen Chinee.

We used to use miles of RG-59 in television plants when everything was NTSC. You wanted everything to be the same length so all the video stayed in sync. It was considered Bad Form to have the picture roll once when you switched sourcers.

But at 40+ years of age, its original cost was probably around 15 cents per foot.
The offer I made is based upon that. If it's not Belden or Amphenol and actually RG-58C/U, I don't want it.

There is a lot of RG-58 junk out there. It is high loss and only usable for short runs or low frequencies. A lot of it was also thin shielded and again only usable for lower frequencies. The only place I see it used any more is for short runs in mobile 2-way and CB antennas. Some one might want a short piece of it for a Chicken Band antenna lead.
Sorry but it is not worth much.
You might try braiding several lengths of it together and making an emergency tow rope out of it.

A spool of junk coax like 58 or 59 makes a great dummy load at microwave frequencies. You don't even have to terminate the far end in an absorber as the small amount of power that makes it that far will be reflected and lost in the dielectric before it gets back to the source.

It's worth what you - or someone will pay for it :) If it truly is Mil spec it's likely worth 10 - 15 cents a foot. If it's silver double braided (I wish) I'd give him 60 cents a foot for it ina minute.
