Should anyone be crossing the river on I 57, don't speed. Not sure there is any tolerance. I have travelled 57 many many times. I have always seen at least one policeman near Cairo. Sometimes several but never none. They run the last 25 miles of Illinois 24-7. Don't speed.

They have to be vigilant and write up speeders! It costs a lot of money to keep our ex-governors in jail!

The Rand-McNally GPS I just picked up has a built-in speed warning. I didn't know what was going on at first. Apparently, I have a lead foot. There's an option on how many miles over MPH before it alerts.

George, no comment on that.
Richard, my Lowrance has that feature.
Just be careful. The speed limit was supposed to go to 70 mph but I have not crossed the river, there, since June. It is 70 mph in Mo, to Sikeston, then it drops to 65. Most folks run 70 mph on 60 but 65 is the limit. I used to ride with troopers a lot. I was told "depends on my mood, as to how fast I will allow cars to run". I witnessed that first hand.
See you there.
Dan

The options for the Do-Rights are a: Go guard the 7 - 11 and take a chance on getting in a gun fight with a robber, which is costly for medical care; or b: go hang paper on motorists, which generates revenue for the general fund of the city/county/state/whatever. Which do you think will be the more popular course of action?

Johnny, you for got one thing. There is also the possibility that if
the motorist happens to be carrying some cash the "officer" can assert
that he is a criminal and the officer will start civil forfiture and
take everything the motorist has. Oh, by the way filing charges is too
much trouble so most of the time that doesn't happen.

Illinois has been this way for a long time, especially on the interstate roads. They patrol heavy within 50 miles of the border trying to get people who are still driving at the previous state limits. I'd stay at the limit or not more than 4 over. We have always seen lots of patrol cars in that 1st 50 miles and lots of cars pulled over. JWIT
