Hi All

I have been looking at '78 Royale coaches (dry side bath, rear bed, front kitchen). I can identify all the hatches on the driver's
side but I am wondering what the hatch in front of the door on the passenger side is all about.

Can anyone shed some light on what is behind the hatch, can whatever it is be moved?

Thanks

On my '78 Center Kitchen Royale, it's a tool cubby (or storage, if you don't put tools in it). It gives you access to a box that's essentially the base of the forward-facing dinette seat.

On my 1976 Royale the door just ahead of the entry door is where the propane tank is located.

Now the question is what is behind the passenger side rear hatch? In my rear bath Royale there is nothing (just a blank wall). In the Palm Beach this is where the propane tank is.

In my side bath Royale it's a stowage locker. I keep all my black tank hose and fittings, tow gear, 10 ton bottle jack and roadside emergency gear.

Just for clarity, the hatch I was referencing (and I believe the same one the OP asked about) is visible in this photo of my coach:

It's big enough for a good-size tool box, my jack, various specialized GMC-related goodies, spare fluids, etc. I should mention that I've since repainted the hatch to better match the silver paint on the lower portion of the coach.

Nice paint job!

Thanks - as far as I know, it's the only one remotely like it anywhere (thanks to the PO), so I've had to stop driving it when robbing banks. Wink It certainly grows on you, and somehow makes the coach look longer and lower.

I guess the goofiest thing about it is that the only nickname that's ever seemed right is "Stripes"... Wink

On mine it's a storage area that goes under the forward facing bench of the
dinette.

Just a follow up . . first of all, what a GREAT looking coach . . that is
the same set up on my coach. It's access to storage under the forward
facing bench on the dinette. In mine only accessible from the outside.

On mine it was the access for the propane tank. I relocated the tank to the under the rear facing dinette seat .
