My '77 Eleganza II has one starter battery in the front and one house bettery in the rear by the generator. After after being sored for several months, the starter battery seems to have no power. I use the "battery Boost" switch and the coach turns over and starts immediately. I have 15-20 amps going into the coach whenever it is parked for any time. Is the starter battery being turned off, ie disconnected after a period of time? With only a short run of 30 minutes, I no longer need the 'battery boost".

Hi Bob,
My guess would be that you have something slowly discharging the starting battery. 30 minutes of driving could easily give you enough juice to start depending on how flat the starting battery is. If you don't have installed some sort of combiner like the Yandina, plugging in, which is what I assume your 15+ amps referred to, doesn't charge the starting battery.

Sir: the plug up charger only charges the house battery, not the coach battery. This is why some have used combiners to charge both. This can mask a problem sometimes. Your problem is the coach battery going down in a couple of months. Mine don`t, using a 1100 cca truck battery. You should check if a light, radio, or something is on. Check if there is a spark disconnecting and touching the coach battery ground cable back to battery. If you have a drain unplug 1 fuse at a time in the glove box till the spark goes away. Check that circuit. Some make a 30 amp jumper with alligator clips to jump across the boost solenoid. This will tie the two batteries together while plugged in, charging both.

You don't say if you have a new charge converter or the original buzz box in the closet. If you have the original, leaving it plugged in all the time will ruin the house battery and if jumpered, the chassis battery as well.

There is a lot of differences between the old buzz box and a modern one including about 25 pounds. The easiest thing for you to do is tell us what brand and model you have.

Buzz box runs from shore power. Purpose is to charge battery and provide 12v when plugged it. They hum or buzz due to loose plates in the transformer. Basic advice get rid of it, and get a modern three stage battery charger. Saves wear and tear on your 12 v batteries.
Keep it as it is a good source of 12 v on a work bench.

I almost did not make that posting. Now I'm happy I did. It helped someone else with the same problem.

I have had trouble starting my coach without using the boost switch. I ran
new cables (except the one to the rear Aux Battery.)
from the starter battery - Power direct to the starter and another from the
positve to the left connection on the Boost Switch.
The negative cable direct to the Motor and another smaller wire to the
alum. I still had problems starting with the starter battery.
Today I read Ken's article on Cleaning the Connections - like really
cleaning them. So today I took the drumel out and Really Cleaned the
connections. Then try once again to start without booster- SUCCESS!!!!
