Keeping with the theme of interior upgrades on the forum, thinking about building new replicas of the interior wall cabinets. I have rebuilt one carcass, and need to do the one over the sink, but thinking it would be better to do all of them in a plywood veneer rather than the fake walnut.

I have access to a 4x12 foot CNC machine and considering doing CAD drawings to cut them out. Has anyone already done this?

Mike,

I remade all the modules and OH cabinets, The closet module was so bad that the only thing that was holding it up was the surface laminate.

I used the old pieces to make templates and, then used the templates to check for fit to wall and then to cut (with a router) the parts for the modules. The side closet module is the most time consuming to make, many details to deal with and keep straight. I reused the face frame on the closet and ref modules.

I made sketches of some of the parts (what I needed for reference) of each module, but not a complete set.

Hope this can help in getting started.

Thanks for the reply Adrien. I have already done hand drawn/traced/cut
method of creating cabinets. What I am considering is making a set of cad
drawings so I can cut entire cabinet carcasses out of sheet walnut faced
plywood on a CNC machine. Before spending any time drawing the CAD files,
I was checking to see if anyone had already done so.

Mike,

If you have any interest in a fishing cabinet for extra storage -- check the memebers section of GMCMI for drawings and a bill of material.

Mike, excellent idea. Since the furniture was plug in modules, a CNC could make them very nicely. A group access to the files would allow them to be duplicated almost anywhere in the country. See the "100K project," supported by MAKe magazine.
