I need to replace the gasket under my rear roof A/C unit and I am wondering how to do it. How heavy is it? I was thinking of either gradually jacking it up using pieces of 2x4 under each side or end until I could get to the gasket or tilting it toward the front or a side but don't know if that would damage the roof or the unit. Suggestions?

Two people can lift it easily (you & your wife?) it depends on if / how badly the old gasket is stuck to the roof.

Rob, thanks for the reply. I'm never going to get my wife on the roof but I think you are telling me that it is not heavy? Maybe I can do the 2x4 thing until I get it high enough to tip up on its end?

Roof A/C's weigh about 100 pounds. Just awkward for one person. If you don't have a pod in the way, move it forward of the current opening and clean the edge around the opening. Re-caulk and gently drop it back in.
Good luck, and don't fall off the roof.

I would add to that to be careful with the shroud as it may be brittle with age and break easily. Resist the urge to add too much sealant. Also, you nay want to check the pan for a rusted out area that may be an alternate leak sorce.

Thanks for the info everyone. I didn't get around to doing it yet and it is almost time to leave for Coos Bay - family visits in Calif on the way - so I'll have to do it when I get back. Current plan is to lift it onto some 2x4s and then slide it forward until I can stand it on the flat end. I am 99 percent sure that it is the gasket that is leaking - the pan is not real rusty and keeping the coach a tad off level keeps the leak from causing problems.

Both of my Dutherm units have plastic pans they can't rust out.
