Trying to understand the system bit by bit
Took out the carpet, passengerside. hidden by the carpet is a outlet from the black box in the front witch is vacuum activated.
Obviously it could not do anything with the carpet covering it.

What is it supposed to do ?

Might be fresh air inlet if it does not have any dash ductwork run to it.

My 73 CanyonLands that came from the factory without dash air conditioning has a fresh air vent like that on each side.

If you are referring to a opening by the floor below the glovebox, on mine that is not an outlet it is an inlet drawing air from the motorhome to recirculate it.

I have propped it permanently open and closed off the outside air intake opening at the outside front and top of the heater box.

It runs much cooler that way.

yes Emmery underneath the glovecompartment

I just found it in the partsmanual page 306 where it is called: duct, heather and airconditioner,( lower RH)

Looks like there should be a vent, thats missing

Interesting! So much to learn!

No vent. It just is an opening into the blower fan area to allow it to draw inside air into the fan and recirculate it.

I am reading this but can only digest a bit at the timer

Emmery should I read the parts book in the way that " duct for heather and aircon" means "intake for recycling" ?

There are intake ducts and outflow ducts. Please tell me what page and part number or diagram you are referring to.

Sorry for the confusion. I was not thinking that I have a 1977 and you have a 1976. In my motorhome I have an opening low by the floor on the left side of the glovebox which leads to the blower for recirculation. Yours duct does not have that. The duct that you are referring to is the one that Zay Brand cuts into the outside of it and runs a hose to the front of your heater box to give air recirculation.

Have you downloaded Zay Brands "Separating Heat from Cold". You should make that modification to give better cooling in your GMC. That basically adds the feature that is in the 1977 and 1978 coaches.

Looks like the air conditioning duct to me. When the dash control is on heater, the vacuum acuator is one way, ducting air to the floor. In A/C, the vacuum actuator would push air out the dash vents.

The one on the Driver's side that does the same thing is in the exploded view next to it in figure 26.035

If you look at the vacuum line picture in the MM, there are two of them. The drawing in my Maintenance Manual is the same as what Ken H. posted. The brown vacuum lines in the picture are the ones that control the actuator for the vent you are asking about and the one on the driver's side.

Appie,
Set your camera resolution up for 640 X 480 size picture. That is what most of us use for the photo site. Most if not all pictures will be under 1 meg (1000K).

He wanted to attach a photo to his post, but the forum attachment size limit is 1k. If he wanted to post on the photo site, he would have to register, yada, yada, yada, and that might be more effort than he wanted to expend.
