My 77 EII has a 1" crack at back on right side near the dump valve neck. I have gotten the previous repair glop off by pulling at it with needle nose. I bought a caulk tube of white leak stopper that drys clear. Or should an RV shop do some plastic welding?

If you rough up the area with coarse sandpaper it will help it to adhere better. But, keep in mind that it is a mechanical bond. It does not dissolve the surface to form a permanent bond.

Plastic welding would be the preferred method of repair.

Please remember this also. You are trying to repair a plastic tank that is
nearly 40 years old. That is nearing the extreme end of it's useful life.
You might effect a successful repair in one area, only to have another
crack manifest itself shortly afterwards. I don't know about you, but I
have better things to do with my time than repairing aged out plastic, when
there is new stuff available that is much improved over what was used
originally. But, like Jim Bounds is fond of reminding us, it is still
AMERICA and currently we are free to choose how to spend our money. Like
Emery says, plastic welding is a far better process than any adhesive is.
Pay your money and take your choice.

As an emergency repair, I have used "Flex Seal" Liquid Rubber Sealant. It comes in a spray can. It is available at Lowe's, HD and other stores.

It is by no means a permanent fix but it works just fine till I can get back to the barn and do a permanent repair with my plastic welder.

make sure the tank is not currently dripping if you spray on the flex seal in a can. The drips can build up and create a leak path before it dries completly.

If you want to take a ride to Chesterton, IN, there is a plastic welder who will slide un the coach and fix it on the spot while the tank is still installed in the coach. He did mine about 6 or 7 years ago. It took him about 20 minutes and cost me $25.00 at the time. You need to be sure it is perfectly dry before you arrive there.

I also had him do a plastic gas tank the same way about a year ago. While you are under there cleaning it up, remove the sending unit screws and replace them with stainless. The original ones rust and expand cracking the plastic around them.

I do not remember the business name. Look up plastic welding in Chesterton, In. He is about 1 mile from the Chesterton exit (Indiana 49) on I-94.

PM me if you can not find it.

I bought a heat gun, shaved a strip of the tank for filler rod, and welded my tank. The filler rod and area to be welded must be cleaned with rubbing alcohol.
Check for alignment stresses created between tank and dump tube.

Thanks guys, this is the info I needed. I'll see if General in Huntley does it or the drive to Indiana might be a good shake down run for the long trip end of month. I'm done with align/ VR box from Jim K and new Spicer shaft. Only drove on 2 lane--so far so good. No pulling and less frantic feeling. 4 deg caster is where I could get it and not get neg camber.

No. They are polypropylene. It says that in either the parts book, maintenance manual or owners manual.

Thanks Emery. I'm attempting a repair. Sanded 60 grit, wiped with alcohol. Doing Loctite plastic bonder epoxy, 2 coats, then Gardner leak stopper clear patch in caulk tube as that's flexible, then going to spray area with Mighty Sealer. If that doesn't work, then sand off and go to Terry the plastic welder in Chesterton In. Camping World would only replace ( and didn't get to the 77 GMC part) and General would apply some patch so trying that myself. Need a new tank but wish we had a Jim K by Chicago. Polypropylene has that Teflon like property
