Why not open or pull out the drawer out.
Noise?

In addition to the cooling issues already pointed out by others it is my opinion that the vibration and weight (~300 lb) of the running machine coupled with a 2' lever arm when it is pulled out of the enclosure is a recipe for fatigued (brinelled) and subsequently failed drawer slides. You have not only a low-cycle vibration from starting, stopping and acquiring or dropping load but you also have high-cycle vibes from the engine's normal operation.
The "GMC RV Operation Manual" does not mention pulling the Onan out other than for ease of servicing. If it were supposed to be pulled out for operation then I expect that GM would have told us to do so in the manual.
Given that GM's engineers undoubtedly had access to Onan's engineers at the time the RV was developed, I am going to go with their advice rather than depend on mailing-list speculation. If you are worried about the compartment insulation catching on fire then replace it with something better. Or put an automatic fire bottle in the compartment. In my case I did both.

i am with Jim on this. Used to pull it out and had my automatic fire bottle right there, mounted to the face of the Onan. We rarely run the Onan while sitting still but when we do, now we leave it inside. Most of our use is while running down the hi way for the roof air, and that is seldom. The dash air works good on our rig. I feel much better with the temperature fired extinguisher on the Onan.
