Finally got to digging around behind the Onan and investigating the wire with the glob of tape the size of a tennis ball. Inside was one of those little rectangular fuses, the kind with two studs that is normally bolted to sheet metal.

I traced the line from the junction block behind the Onan to the fuse block for house power. Seeing as there is already a fuse there, this one seems superfluous, and all I can figure out is that it was installed by some overly cautious PO. In the original wiring diagram there is no fuse in this line. I cut it out, swaged a new end on the cable, and hooked it directly to the junction block.

You did not state whether this is your Palm Beach or Royale. So it is difficult to understand exactly what you have there.

On the Palm Beach you are getting power to the house fuse panel from the heavy cable that runs from the front to the rear of the coach. There is a 50 amp circuit breaker very near the 12 volt source which is the battery(s). So that extra "fuse" you are showing, along with the wires attached to it, are not necessary.

If it is the Royale you are talking about then the 12 volt feed circuit is different. I am not familiar with house wiring on a Royale.

I will say that you should fuse all circuits as close to the power source as practical. For that reason I probably would not remove it. If you do remove it then the wiring between the battery and the fuse panel is not protected.

BTW, the picture you showed in this posting is not a fuse but rather an automatic reset circuit breaker.

This is in the Royale with the 3 battery system, although I do not have a battery installed in the rear at this time. The Palm Beach has an isolator installed in the back, but the Royale has nothing. This breaker was definitely not original and it doesn't appear to have replaced anything that was stock. I may put one in (properly mounted and wired) just for heck of it.
