Those are all issues with any system which uses the hydraulic brake
system (eg Mico brake lock, or a pedal puller/pusher).

Line locks have been used a lot (that's what the Mico brake locks are),
but are a lot harder to install, much more expensive, and only work
on 2 or 4 wheels (depending on where you install them). They still
depend on the hydraulic system.

I intend to have mechanical brakes as well but all the mechanical
systems are on only 2 or 4 wheels and most are marginal.
Drum parking brakes also don't work very well in the backwards direction.
(so you need to plan your breakdown to happen only when heading downhill... :-)

In all cases, use blocks. This is not a replacement for
a good parking brake, but it could be extremely helpful in a lot of
situations and is too darn cheap and easy not to consider.

Just my .02. Like Sully said, if you don't like it, don't use it.
