GMC community,

I am trying to assist an owner who needs a window glass replacement for the right side large window.

I checked the parts manual and it has listings for a 'first'
and 'second' design.

Does anyone know what the year/serial number for the switchover
in design?

My windows are PPG glass which indicates that it is 'second' design. First design indicates that it was made by LOF ( Libby owens ford, I assume ).

Are these interchangeable ?

The windows are interchangible as a complete assembly, but the individual pieces are not. Change over was sometime in 1975, my first Avion had the late style, my current Avion had the early style.
After trying to give away the glass from early windows over a period of six months, I gave up and they were recycled.
If early window, I might have a lead, but depending on where the need is, it might be impossible. Glass is in Northern Al.

Hi Larry, It is my understanding is they will not interchange. The early type the outside glass slides and latches on the end. The late style inner glass slides and latches in the middle. I have early styles if you need. Same $ as you quoted for yours.

Thanks all,

I am trying to help out another owner with a window. We replaced our windows and I have the originals, second design, PPG glass.

The owner is in CT and blew out the glass moving the coach.

He is needing the stationary portion of the right hand side
of the large window.

He is checking his windows to see what brand they are (PPG or LOF ) and will contact me.

I think the first design is the same as to left or right hand but the parts book lists two different numbers for the second design for the left or right.

In the 77 and ? Coaches the left and right fixed and movable pieces are interchangeable left to right in windows of the same size. So a fixed or movable from either side will work left and right. I assume the same is true early windows. Same with the frames.

Does anyone have a lead for the entire left hand PPG assembly in Michigan or OH? Someone tried to break in while in storage and bent up the middle bar letting the fixed window fall out. Sad

I'm making an insurance claim but wanted to know how hard (and much) it is going to be to replace them.

thanks

Todd

I have a thought for you.

Replace the entire assembly with a new upgraded CR Lawrence one.

The side windows were aparently a phase-in and not done at a specific TZE#. I tried to determine the period of phase-in and wasn't able to come closer than mid to late 1975. I have even seen coaches of this period with a mixture of type-1(GMC/LOF) & type-2 (Hehr/PPG)in the same coach.
