If you are going to do this, and it is not a bad idea, replace those original fuel lines. This modern fuel is death on your old lines.
Mine is in line under the frame, before the electric fuel pump. P.O. installed it, and I see no reason to change the design. Fuel pump is a switch controlled from the dash. Very useful for vapor lock.
In line filter is from NAPA. I selected it, based on the diameters of the fuel line. Buy it with the fuel line at the same time and you wont go wrong.

Tom,

If you look up under the front suspension you will find the front crossmember that joins the driver and passenger side of the frame.
On top of that crossmember you will find a steel fuel line that is connected to the fuel pump with a rubber line.

Cut that line and using ethanol compatible hosing install a METAL fuel filter at that point.

By locating the filter at that point you will catch any crap that comes down the lines from the tanks.

You noted that you had original fuel lines, as noted by Tom; I too would suggest you consider replacing them as the ethanol will eat
them.

I would suggest you buy at least three filter to replace them as they get clogged from gunk the ethanol will remove from your tanks
and the fuel lines. As you use them buy more!

When you install the filter upstream of the fuel pump change the filter in the carb as well.

The line from the fuel pump to the carb should be a solid metal line OR the insulated flex line that JimB / JimK sell.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES INSTALL A FILTER BETWEEN THE OUTLET OF THE FUEL PUMP AND THE INLET OF THE CARB USING RUBBER HOSES!!!!!!

Regards,
Rob M.
