replacing fuel pump with another mechanical.

The new one looks a bit different

Is this going to work and what do you do with the extra orifice coming off this pump

It's listed as working but what do you do with the extra line?

original looked different with only 2 lines and one had a small can riser piece

The fuel pump designated for a Toronado with air on has a fuel return, our original does not have one...I used this pump and piped in a return to the fuel fill overflow, I needed to add a restrictor in the return to maintain proper pressure (used a short piece of 3/16 line)

You are looking at the wrong pump.

On the Rock Auto site the one you want would be the AC/Delco 41566 $27.79 or the Airtex 41566 $15.67 or the Carter M6108 which they have on closeout for $12.43.

The one you are showing in the link below has a fuel return line that goes back to the tank. This was not used on the GMC Motorhome.
I could be used if you crimp off the return and braze it or silver solder it closed. DO NOT attempt to put a rubber stopper over it as the rubber will degrade and eventually you wold be squirting fuel over your exhaust manifold and start a huge engine fire.

Forgot to tell you to just put those part numbers in the Part Number Search tab on the Rock Auto site.

It will work if you plug off the 3rd port.  You could run it over to the vaport return hose.  There has been a move to using a 3 port pump.  If you don;t wanna go through the hassle of a 3rd line-- plug it off or just buy the right one.  A 2 port unit, about every parts store hase them,

I found the 1972 Tornado used the pump
To fit the 455 engine with 2 lines

Fuel pump Nut

Does anyone know the Nut size for the top stud?

In the parts book it just list's a number not a size.

when removing the old pump tonight the nut took a trip to the ocean I guess through the gutter it rolled into.

The Pump is held in by two thing 1 bolt and 1 nut.

The nut is what I lost.

Try the same thread side as the bolt.

Those nuts are fine thread. The stud is coarse on the end that goes into
the block, and fine on the end with the nut. Should be 5/16" NF nut.

Great advice Emery. My coach came with the 'WRONG' pump and a seepy plugged hose. I stopped the seep but had not thought about what would happy if the hose failed. New pump ordered from Rock Auto. Thanks!
