So we've taken our cat on one camping trip. It was only a couple days
and it was wet and rainy so he didn't mind saying insideand chasing
raindropson the windshield.

We'll be spending 6 days in Coos Bay and we've considered taking him
along. I've seen "cages" hanging from the sliding front windows. I'm
sure I can come up with something but rather than reinvent the wheel I'd
like know if anyone has pictures of this setup.

Now to get him used to a leash...

Kevin, Don't know about window cage. I do remember a long time ago someone posted a photo of one he built. Looked interesting.
We have travelled with our three cats. Depending upon personality determines how we controlled our cats. 2 were hiders, one is an escape artist. We put a bunny full body harness on the escape artist. He proved capabile of pulling out of a standard collar. He gets the body harness before we leave and it comes off when we get home. Complains a little put settles down and enjoys the trip.
Jerry Holoway has his cat trained to walk on a lead. See him out walking the cat at many rallies.

G'day,

Helen and I have discussed this for when I get the Blue Streak done (IF EVER) and she reckons that Stumpy and Shadow would run away.
They are both 13 years old this September and I told her they ain't runnin' too far from their food supply! We tried the collar and
leash deal once but that was a resounding failure, much wailing and gnashing of teeth!

Bob Sobrito also traveled with two cats, one was a hider and they got it a bed, put it under the dinette table and that's where it
stayed. The other was more adventurous; Bob sent me a photo of it sitting on the dash as the drove down the road and it was watching
the dashboard, Bob noted he was making sure he didn't go too fast!

Regards,
Rob M.

Forgot to add we put a 6 foot lead on the bunny harness. Do not have to grab for the cat, just stomp on the lead. Brings him up short.
He has gotten out of the coach at least twice, once at Bean Station, where he was spotted trying to get back in the coach. Left the toll window open and out he went.

If the cat escapes the coach, you are very unl;ikely to ever see it again. It is in a strange place, and really has no good means of finding its way back if it 'took off' in a frightened hurry. Also, in a strange place, there are dogs and coyotes and other dangers plus strangers, cars, and motor hiomes. Most cats - mine included - don't tolerate a leash. My hat's off to those few who >can< train their cats to a leash. When we take the cat or cats - haven't yet - we will apply the DogRule. No door is opened until the animal is leashed, or crated. For my cats, it will be crated. I suspect Feline Designate S will be happy prowling about the coach, and Macavity P Pussycat will find a warm spot and nap; once they get used to the coach moving. We will likely leave Jessie Cat at home, she doesn't get along with S and doesn't like change in her life. For a Four day trip, my cats do perfectly well at home by themselves. Beyond 4 days, we would exceed
litterbox capacity.

We have a 10 year old Siamese that we inherited 9 years ago when our daughter went to Australia for a year & hasn't moved back yet. He was leash trained from a kitten & is tied outside when he wants to go out. We are presently training him to ride in the car. Started out with short trips, we may have to take him to Florida with us this year as we lost our cat sitter from other years.

Leash training. We started our cats with a 3 foot leash inside the house for short periods. They soon learned that the only thing causing a pull on the leash was their own foot stepping on it. They quickly learned to lift each foot until the pressure released. Then we started to hold the leash n move them around calling them to get them to start moving. The rest is history. We started when our cats were about 10. They were used to flea collars so had no problem there.
My sisters cat who hated car rides was content in the motorhome. Seeing the movement of the roadside ground was the only thing that bothered one of our cats. She just stayed on the floor chair or bed. My sisters cat is trained to walk n potty on a leash. Same method. Other friends have the cats on a leash.
Good luck.
