I have been reading as much as I can find here on recharging the ac system with dura cool. Am I correct in my interpretation that to charge my system all I need do is to input about 3 cans of duracool in the low pressure valve? It should then have a pressure of about 20. Seems to easy. Do I need to be concerned about the R12 that might be in the system? What about oil ?

No, you are not correct.

You would only put three cans of Duracool into an empty system.
If you R12 or other refrigerant in it you would have to bleed that off first.

It would only read 20 psi at 1500 rpm and a relatively mild day. If the ambient temperature were higher than perhaps 80 degrees the pressure would read higher. Also If you have been running the engine for a while without air blowing through the condenser it will heat up and the pressures will go up.

Three cans on an empty system is about right though so it can be done without gauges and you will be very close.
