Please forgive as I beat on this dead horse a little more.
I am trying to get my opening ready as I wait delivery.
Specs show 52 7/8 height, which appears that I will need to trip the top approx half inch. no big deal.
Width appears to be maybe one inch narrower. No big deal since sheet rock is cheep and easy to work with.
Depth is where I am having a "what tha" moment. Specs say 24 inches deep. I measure my old area where I assume top of fridge to be, it is 23 inches. No big deal I think, I will just remove the poor shape ply that is there and see what that gives me.
Now I measure from where I expect top of fridge back the 24 inches. Puts me on the aluminum frame piece that supports the cable run there. So then I am wondering, if others who installed this fridge had fit issues. I have seen Carls work (pics), great work, but my brain dead self just either forgot how to use a tape, or ?
Next I wonder if I just need to add tri pieces and bring fridge into room by maybe a couple inches for room for clearnace and baffles. To me all appears very dooable except top 6 inches or so.
Any input is appreciated, just bair in mind I do better with simple pics, and smaller words.

Brian,
It's possible the very top of the fridge is only 21 or 22 inches deep. I'd
wait for it to arrive before I started doing any butchering of your coach.

Brian,

Sheetrock is a little on the heavy side. That's why I used iso foam sheets. I did build out one side of the opening (the one toward the front) with a 3/4" wood strip. When I pulled out the fridge to replace the vent fans, I added a 3/4" strip around the face of the opening to bring the back of the fridge a little farther away from the outer wall of the coach. This was not really necessary.

You WILL need to strip the old plywood back out of the opening in order to have all the depth you can get. I ran the 1/2" foam sheets all the way to the outer walls of the coach (two on the right side and one on the left) and then sealed them to the outer wall with aluminum tape. Then I built the baffle to get the back of the enclosure straight up and down. I also built a baffle at the top according to the installation manual.

The following pic shows the back of the fridge:

Note that the cooling coils are a few inches below the top of the fridge box. This places them at a slightly wider point in the enclosure.

Hope this helps. It WILL fit.

Carl,

Your rear baffle , any idea what the measurement is from this baffle to the face of the opening?

I did remove all the old tired ply, It looked like it needed to go in trash anyway.
I may use excuse to adjust door latch down slightly since I can now get to it.
Jr,
I think the ply was in poor enough shape that tossing it will not be considered butchering. But point taken. I do hope things are well with you.
Thanks for the help.

Brian,

I can't take that measurement with the fridge in the hole (I'm guessing it is around 24 - 25 inches), but from the outside of the coach to the face of the baffle (the part that's against the back of the fridge) is about 10 inches.

I installed the same reefer about 11 years ago. It was a big job, but certainly doable. Here's some pics from my way out of date website. Later I moved the reefer into the coach a few inches to allow room in back for an on demand gas water heater to supplement the OEM water heater when camping at the likes of Wal-Mart. It's a tight fit with the instant water heater, but it uses space otherwise unused.

Richard,

That's a really good and thoroughly documented installation. I have always enjoyed your web site, especially the Tin Can Tourist photos.
