On the home page of
http://www.harborfreight.com
there is a coupon code for a set of refrigeration gauges for $49.95.

The definitely have the fittings for R-134 and appear appear to also have the hoses that directly attach to R-12 and R-22 type fittings.

I have that set and believe they work well. I say I "believe" they work well because I really have no clue what I'm doing.

The AC is cold, so if the proof of the pudding is in the tasting, then they work. Tom Hampton did screw on some modern fittings on my AC when it was with him so he could pull a vacuum and attempt to repair the AC. After being unable to pull a vacuum I told him to call off the chase. A subsequent shot of dye showed my compressor front seal leaking, but I digress. The gauge needles swing up and down when I twirl the knobs.

Ken,

I can only hope to remember to look when I get home. I do not believe that is the case - how some ever

All the old stuff was 1/4 flare and I think that the thread size was 7/16-18, but all the 134 stuff and Duracool are 9/16-18 Acme. They do have good and easy to use couplers that I like, but I think all the hoses and such at the 9/16 size.

Matt

If the hoses do not fit the r-12, r-22 fittings you can get adapters on Ebay for $7.50 per hose including shipping. I have a couple sets in my AC kit.

Once you get the gauges. What else do I need? i.e., what type and size of vacuum pump is needed and other equipment needed to service the ac?? Want to get all the tools needed at once. Also a good source for Duracool will be helpful.

I am thinking about this product. Any thoughts about this item??

Thanks so much. Everyone on this forum is super great.

That is about it for major items. You will probably need an adapter or two.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/R134a-to-R12-R-12-to-R-134a-Fitting-Adapter-Set-/111139902367?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19e074539f&am p;vxp=mtr

Definitely on to attach an R-134 and Duracool can. I would also order a can tapper so you can install the refrigerant through the gauge set.

You also might want to buy a small bottle of UV dye and a cheap UV flashlight if you are going to be chasing leaks.
