I bought a pb and it has no door key. called a gmc dealer and they said mh is too old to make a key from vin #. Called a few lock smiths and the say they cant do it. Anyone run into this problem before? thanks.

I brought my bad cylinder to the local Kenworth dealer, and they had the
new ones in stock. It is just like the old one, except that I had to
grind some of the flanges off each side where the slide-clip holds the
cylinder to the door. The newer ones use a big snap ring that did not
look like it could be used on the GMC. (Unless there is another Kenworth
part that truly fits as is.) The part number for a set of two cylinders
is 30GN15. They are not $22 or $30 for a set anymore, though; I paid
just over $60 for the pair. (Some of that may be the normal
"California/Bay Area tax", though.)

I would think if you take the cylinder out and brought it to a locksmith they could make a key. It's a very simple lock. If they can't make a key, I would also think that they could find a regular wafer cylinder that would work. You just have to find an old locksmith. Sadly, most are gone now.

If you can remove the cylinder ass from the door any locksmith can re key it or re code it for a new key.

It's klikely cheaper to just replace the lock cylinder than it is to have a key made for the one that's fitted.

Any of the lock cylinders should have the key # stamped on the outside.
Take the cylinder to a GOOD locksmith or a GOOD GM dealer. They can cut new
keys from the number.
If all else fails, contact Joe Ekl, who is a retired locksmith. Don't
forget, the utilities door needs the same key.
