Pulled the tanks out of the Royale. Moved the generator fuel line from the tee in main tank line to the gen port that is in the main tank. Then I came across lots, and lots of wire butt connectors. And they put lots of different colored wires in. With no thought of color matching. All wrapped up in an electrical tape that I had never run into when working with wires. It was vary sticky, and SILVER. YES, Duct tape. And if that wasn't enough. All 4 white wires that are coming down out of the gen. They were all pulled off of the colored wires. Now what? Can someone lead me home with this.Member GMCMI Bob Dunahugh

Bob,

Download the appropriate wiring diagram for your year/model from here and see if what you found matches up with anything OEM.

Bob,

In this Onan rebuild manual are wiring diagrams...

http://www.bdub.net/manuals/Onan/Onan6kwNH_Major-Service.pdf

You will note that there are four wires to the remote start button -- but s little more information or a picture would be very helpful in directling your efforts.

There are 4 wires that go from the control board to the remote Onan panel
inside the coach.

I do understand that the 4 white wires that are coming down out of the gen go to the remote inside the coach. And there are 4 colored wires that come out of the remote panel, and go to the gen in the rear. The white wires were all pulled off of the colored wires. And the manual doesn't talk about colors. From the remote I have a white, red, green, and blue. And thanks for the manual.Member GMCMI Bob Dunahugh

Bob,
The wires from the remote panel go to a connector that is located just behind the onan near the frame. This connector is typically corroded and causes many problems including not starting, not being able to stop and sometime causing the onan starter to be stuck on after starting the onan. If you look here your will see where the colors change most of the time. A lot of owner have cut this plug and butt spliced the wires back together one at a time as to not miss wire. This is one of these "Been there and done that" problems. You have to jack the coach to get under the coach, but sure to be safe and put stands under the coach.

You found one of the joys? of owning a Royale. If it had been GM built the color of the wires would have been consistant from the Onan to the inside control panel, but Coachmen apparently used whatever color wire they had on hand and it varied from coach to coach.

What you have to do, if you have the wiring diagram, is to get a long jumper wire and , using an alligator clip to connect to a wire at the control panel end, pull the jumper through your rear window and check for continuity at the end where the wires were taped up. Slide a piece of heat shrink tubing onto the wire and solder it to the proper wire leading to the Onan. Repeat for the other wires.

Thanks to all that responded. The two 78 Royales that I have here, have 54 VIN's between them. Emery was right on. Yes, Coachman seems to have had a lot of white wire on hand at the time these two couch's were built. I'm going to have to work the wiring out in the way Emery talked about.Trying to get all the lose ends tied up this week. I can say that this coach has all most nothing to stop it along the way. Looked at the water system today. Everything so far works. But the water heater is original. So I ordered a new one from Jim K this afternoon. Not going to take a chance of a water leak.
