So, I was looking at my fuel setup yesterday, glanced aft, and noticed my tank mounting bolts. I'm pretty sure the shop that cleaned my tanks last year is trying to kill me:

Does anyone know where I can get the correct mounting bolts?

You are kidding me!! I hope they are not as long as they look. Wound never get out of my driveway. Take one out, measure , and head to town looking for 2.

YIKES, the tank strap is not even tight! As Dan said, take a measurement and go to your favorite hardware or Big Box store and get 2 bolts 4 flat washers and 2 lock washers and 2 nuts. What does the other tank look like? You can measure those bolts if there shorter, if not double what you need.

Those look to be the right bolts but they are not hooked in the cross member holes. Parts manual page 12-2 shows these J-bolts as part number 48 in the illustration. I just had these out and back in with the tanks. I had help getting them back in. What we did was hook the j-bolts in first while loose in the tank straps, position the straps above the cross member flange then tilt the front of the tanks up until we could get the front bolts in. I don't know if the j-bolts will go in the strap holes and the cross member holes with out taking the front mounting bolts out so the tank will move for clearance. Good news is you don't need to buy any bolts just reinstall yours in the correct place.

Yep, what Wally said. I bet they knew but did not want to drop tank again to fix. I would not use this place to drop my tanks, I don't think.

Get-er-done! Wow, thats bad.

Those straps look different than the ones on my 77. The 77 has J hook threaded studs which hook high into the X member then pass through the straps. It almost looks like correct length bolts are not enough. ANYTHING will be better than what they left you with. Gather some grade 5 fasteners with nyloc nuts.

Sean,

As Wally said, it looks like you have the correct bolts.

They should be 3/8 J-hooks about 6 inches long. If they have been damaged, they are not difficult to make. All you need is some rod stock, a die, a BFH and a vise. I had to replace at least one of mine. They don't need a lot of hook.

I was also able to replace them with the tank hanging on the frame as yours is. You need to pick the tank up enough so you can roll the strap sideways to feed the hook in then push the hook up and into the hole in the crossmember.

There also should be washers between the nut and the tank strap.
