With the recent interest in mapping the GMC Assist list, I got caught up in importing stuff into trip planning software and GPSs.
I do not have mobile internet (haven't hit the lottery, so no budget for it), so stuff that works on the GPS or an unconnected laptop works better for me than internet based solutions.
I tried importing the whole POI file from pure-gas.org into my TomTom, and the CSV file produces a corrupt OV2 file with my POI editor software.
So I made my own file for my home state using the web page data and edited it in Notepad as a tab-delimited file and pasted it into OpenOffice Calc then saved as a CSV and imported into the ToTom.
Then I made a file for each of the states that I transit on the way to the in-laws and imported them into the TomTom.
Then I made files for MS Streets and trips.
And I found that there is a 360 mile stretch along the route (between Elizabethtown, KY and Luna Pier, MI) where I would have to detour 20 - 40 miles out of the way to get to a station (Kentucky and Ohio must have an aversion to ethanol free gas).
Its a slow day, too hot and humid to work on the GMC, and I thought I would share.

In Seattle, most Plus and Premium is ethanol free. They don't go stale as fast either, which is nice if your coach sits for awhile between uses.

I have a Verizon smartphone (droid) and it's set up to act as a mobile hotspot. That means I can push a button, and now my laptop (and any other wi-fi-ready stuff) will connect to the 'net at 4g (fast!) speeds. It's $20 a month, which is a flat-out steal compared to most other options. You will want to keep the phone plugged in while it's in hotspot mode, since it does pull some juice, but it's really nice for the wife to be able to surf the web on her laptop while we're rolling.

Again, Mark and I are on the same page. That is exactly what I have been using for mobile internet for over three years. It works great in most situations and is very cost effective. No need to "hit the lottery"

Is there a similar app for iPhone and/or iPad? I have both and I'm on AT&T.

iPhone has an internet sharing option built into the phone. Just go to Settings, General, Cellular, Personal Hotspot and turn it on. You may have to activate it with AT&T for a "nominal fee."
Then it's just a matter of connecting your other devices to the phone like a regular wireless connection.

You need to look for stations that are not listed. As an example the northern 1/4 of Indiana all had ethanol free fuel except 3 counties. (Indiana has 92 counties) Only a few stations were ever reported to the pure gas site. If there is a station listed in a given county, then there is a good chance the there are many many more. The fuel terminal for that area does not handle ethanol free fuel for only one station. Just pull into a station and test the fuel before you fill up.
The rules vary by state. Some states allowed ethanol free to be sold in premium. Some in 87 only. Others have no rules. Unfortunately on this mandate all the feds did was to tell each state how much ethanol they must sell each year and left it up to the states to figure out how to meet their quota.
The joke now is the quotas are now so high that they are having to import ethanol to meet the numbers.
