For all of you interested in these "classic" motor homes, travel trailers and trailer homes, one of the speakers at the Coos Bay, OR, rally coming up the first week in October will be Dean Hansen whose family business made many of them possible by introducing the use of sheet aluminum to the industry just after WWII. Dean lived through the formation of many of the names mentioned so far and will be sharing his experiences with us in what should be a really interesting session that few have heard before.
We are now well over 100 coaches registered and more registrations coming every day even though we are still nearly 60 days before the event. One thing that will be unusual in this rally is the number three. Not only do we have three clubs sponsoring one rally, we are celebrating three important parts of the GMC lifestyle. First, this is the 40th anniversary of the introduction of the GMC motorhome. It is also the 25th anniversary of the formation of the GMC Western States club, one of the sponsoring organizations. But, most importantly, this rally is all about celebrating our specialty vendors without whom there would be far less interest in these coaches and a far less certain future. They are really what is fueling the generational change in ownership we are seeing right now.
Byron Songer designed a special logo to reflect these three celebrations and that will be used as the basis for the special metal art commemorative piece Sharon and I commissioned for the event. You have likely seen this logo design on the web sites of the three clubs and, I think, on this forum as well. It features the number 40 and the wording, "going strong after all these years" with outline drawings of two GMCs. Does a good job of indicating the 40th anniversary, the fact that our vendors and owners working together keep our coaches going strong year after year and the camaraderie of shared experience we all enjoy from the many GMC clubs and events all over North America.
Lots of space available for you so come join us if you can.
