I am looking for troubleshooting information on the OEM wiper system. Here's the back story. I replaced the power steering pump high pressure line due to a leak. After replacing and refilling the pump with fluid and trying to bleed by turning the wheel,it seemed like everything was ok. Then I thought about the wipers. Never had a problem before. Turned them on. Working OK. Turned them off. They stay on. Can't turn them off.
So I thought the filter might be clogged or something. Pulled the filter nipple off, and there is no screen in the nipple. So now I am looking to see what could be the problem. It's not the cable, as I can see the outside of the valve actuating, yet the wipers continue to work. If I loosen the outlet, I get fluid.
I searched the archives and can't seem to find anything about this type of problem. I know I could pursue an upgrade. I'd prefer to fix it if I can, or at least understand what is going on. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried pushing the lever on the wiper motor with your hand while everything is running?

Yes. I had my wife adjust the lever and watched the mechanism; it appears to fully actuate. I used a screw driver to see if it would move further, and it doesn't, so it appears the cable is doing what it should.
It acts like there must be valve in the motor stuck open, and I am afraid since there was no screen filter in the nipple, there may have been some debris introduced.

I would try and loosen the clamp on the control casing to be sure the valve is closing all the way. It only needs to be cracked open a hair to allow the wipers to move. Then you can move it all the way through the operating range with the lever on the motor without fighting the dash switch. And you won't need to drag your wife out there. If you can bottom the arm on the motor and they still run I would suspect debris in the valve. With the engine running throw the lever on the wiper pump around through the range of movement and maybe it will kick loose. If you get them working you might obtain a new filter from Kanomata. When i pulled mine it looked more like a piece of tubing than a filter but a bit of work with a wire bottle brush and contact cleaner got it clean. Ive seen some posted opinions favoring removal but im leaving mine. Easier to clean than the wiper pump internals. One of the Kens or Jim's might chime in soon.........

Galen,
You may have some junk in the control valve and it would not take much. As other have said try adjusting the on off valve. You can add an additional filter in the low pressure line back to the tank. If you just have the brass pipe with nothing in it don't worry about it just add one of these filters.
