I really screwed up and am hoping someone can help me out. I took a few photos of my engine bay but not enough...after all I have a parts coach with the complete drivetrain still in it. True BUT, it seems that the 76 455 and the 77 403 are pretty much different beasts.

Is there someone who has the correct coach willing to lift the engine hatch and try to take some photos of the power steering, alternator, and AC compressor...top, front, and side. I will be very grateful. I'll ultimately figure it out but, although I'm normally very good at things like this, these are driving me nuts. If they already exist and someone can point me to them that would work also.

I've been through the photosite and looked at all the engine photos but haven't seen any of the later model configurations.

There are some very good drawings of the motor in the manual. They might help as much as a picture.

Kerry,
In the MM X7725 which is the 77 & 78 Supplement in section 6K pages 4, 5 & 6 pictures the bracket and how they are layed out. If you do not have the MM then go to Bdubs and download:

http://www.bdub.net/manuals/X7725/index.html

You can print the pages out.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions and help. Jon, I have the manual but it's not that clear on a few mystery points.

OK, I have everything in place. What drove me nuts is what goes under/over existing bolts, studs, etc. Now I am left with a mystery and a missing part. Before I get into that, you should be aware that I tore down the 403 AND a Caddy 500. I thought I kept everything separate but perhaps the mystery part is from a caddy. Here is the mystery part:

Another view:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6382/m_002.jpg

I simply cannot for the life of me see where it will fit. At this point I believe it came from the Caddy.

Here is what I have left to find on the 403. I'm thinking it got lots at the machine shop...or in my shop...or my shop gremlin decided he wanted to add it to his collection of 9/16 box end wrenches.

It's on the AC bracket right over the fuel pump. It appears to me that something goes between the threaded hole in the block by my pinky finger, to the threaded casting hole at my thumb.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6382/m_003.jpg

A photo without my hand in the way.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6382/m_005.jpg

It sure looks like SOMETHING goes between the block and this threaded hole in the front most AC Compressor cast mount right where I'm pointing.

I've searched my shop for missing pieces and haven't found anything. It will be simple enough to fabricate something from a piece of 1/4" plate or angle but I'd prefer to be sure I've got it right. Anyone know what I'm looking for?

Kerry

Is the mystery part the one on this photo by SteveF? Caddy 500.

Yep, that is it Dennis. Thanks for clearing that up. I'll label it Caddy and put it with the engine.

Pretty well got everything mounted. I just made a bracket to go from the block to that casting. It might not be needed but as my Dad used to say, "nothing ever broke because it was mounted too strong."

Kerry, I would think it might be bracket for the fan shroud that you are
missing.
