Here's one for you: Was out enjoying the fruits of my labor, in the GMC, today. Hotrodded it all over town enjoying stopping at every red light to feel the all disc brakes and to hear the engine idle. Parked on a hill at my daughter's to check on my grandkids. Put it in reverse to back up a pretty steep incline and heard what sounded like a stick dragging real hard on the blacktop. I had my foot in it more than normal backing up the hill. Got out of the gas and it stopped. Tried it again and heard it once more. Now, I have a glass engine cover and I keep it clean so I can see what is happening. Well, When in reverse, with my foot hard on throttle, the rear of the engine, on passenger side is jumping up. I am sure it is causing something to be misalligned and making the noise. When I get out of the throttle the engine goes back to normal resting place. Stop on flat and hold foot on brake, with lots of throttle in reverse, I can make the engine come up on rear pass side. Forward all is good.
So, the right rear mount is busted or loose. I suspect it has seperated. What do you think? This is hard to tell, from my experience, by just looking at one. We had the engine and trans out a couple of years back, never noticed anything. May have just snapped or it may have been this way for 50,000 miles, as I have never gunned it in reverse to back up a steep hill before.
Bottom line, is it hard for one guy to replace?
Dan

you are probably hearing your fan hitting the shroud....This is the mount that Kerry posted a week or two about...there is one bolt that is hard to access.

It could be the mount but make sure that the bolts/nuts didn't rattle off.  The top ones aren't too hard to find.  The lower ones are inside a hole in the cross-member.

Ok, thanks JP. The top one is tight. The bottom one is loose. I can spin the lock washer with my finger up in the hole. So, I grab a 5/8 deepwell and go to it. Seems to be spinning in the rubber mount. Can hear the rubber squeaking as I try to tighten it up from under the coach, not jacked up. So, I am assuming bad motor mount. I need to go find a picture of it.

You lost the trans bracket to trans mount bolts on right side or more likely the trans mount to frame clip bolt or trans mount to trans bracket bolt on the right rear.

We never back this coach as there is always a car hooked to it. Today was the coach alone. This afternoon Teri and I took the 2 grandsons out for a nice 80 mile run through the country side. No toad. Sure nuff, had to back it up again turning around. The motor jumped back up and growled.Fan not hitting the shrould. I let off a little and it pulled right on back up to the hiway and off we went. Not too concerned about the bad mount. The bolt may be stripped since it just spins when cranking on it. Will get my manual out tomorrow and have a look. Thanks for the help. I have also had some good information emailed to me.

My front clip is still out so it is easy to take pics of the rear motor mounts as installed. Do you want some photos of the mount from any particular direction or showing some specific detail?

I was not able to fooll with it yesterday. I have not jacked the coach up yet. Any pictures from the bottom would be nice, or of one of the mounts not in position yet. Just been busy with other things . When I try to tighten the bolt, throught the hole in bottom, it seems to just spin in the rubber. I am assuming something is stripped.
Thanks,
Dan

Thank you Steve and every one that has responded here or via email. I have sold the front mounts off Jim's tables but can never recall anyone needing a rear one, so I have not pictured in my mind just how this thing "connects". I suppose when I see the mount to use for replacement I will be able to figure this out. It is affecting my 3 inch exhaust so I better replace the thing. Surely I can jack up the front and then jack the tranny a little and swap it out. But, the bottom bolt is spinning so may have to figure some way to hold it.
It is raining today and I am high on dope from dentist cutting two jaw teeth out this morning. So, will look harder at this when my circumstances change.

It is, as you know, held onto the frame by one bolt, don't remember the size (other than BIG). I think it may be sawzall time. As you are also aware by now, getting at the top bolts is a bugger as it sits all installed.

You might try applying upward pressure on the bracket forward of the mount where the bracket bolts to the trans. With upward pressure you might be able to spin the bolt out with a high speed impact. If your fender liner is installed, removing it as well as the wheel will give you much better visual access.
Lifting under the bracket will also give you confirmation of the failure being the mount and not the bracket.
I have good access to mine if you want photos. Send me your email

Dan, there are at least (2) two different rear mounts. One style has
imbedded into the rubber a special stud that protrudes through the steel
saddle towards the bottom of the coach. When you are under the coach,
looking up all you see will be a threaded stud with a flanged nut screwed
onto it. That is not the style that I believe you have.
The second type just has a bolt and lockwasher visible on the bottom. The
steel saddle is threaded, the rubber mount is bonded to the saddle. When
the rubber bond is broken, as I suspect yours is, the mount and saddle
separate. As long as the weight of the engine/transmission is bearing down
on the mount, everything is sorta O.K. But when you load up the drive train
in reverse, nothing is keeping the assembly in place and they rear up, like
yours does. In all likelihood, the threads in the steel saddle are
stripped and the bolt will not tighten up.
If you have the stud and nut mount, and the stud turns without tightening
up, the same thing has happened. It has come unbonded. Replacement is the
cure. The two upper bolts that secure the assembly to the housing cover are
not easy to get to with the engine and transmission in place. Guess how I
know all this. BTDT.

If one could somehow get those difficult two upper bolts out, can the rubber then be pulled out giving access to both ends of the bolt/stud?

No. The problem is, the rubber has deteriorated. No bond exists between the
parts.

Wait Jim, that is what I'm saying! Since the rubber is shot can you pull it out so you can then grab hold of the lower stud on both ends to get it loose from the frame?

Don, the mount consists of three main parts..There is a rubber block, with
a reinforcement steel piece molded into it. The block has two upward
accessible nuts, and one downward facing stud or a threaded hole in it to
match up with the lower nut or bolt. Over the top of the rubber block is a
steel stamping that the block locates into. The third piece is also a
stamping that is large enough in size that the rubber block and the upper
stamping both fit inside. When assembled, you have a sandwich. How they
usually fail is, gas oil and tyranny fluid attack the rubber part and it
fails, usually a gooey soft mess. Because all the fasteners are retained by
the rubber block, nothing holds the sandwich together. The engine is free
to lift up when the torque reaction forces are greater than the gravity
that holds the engine in place. If both sides happen to fail at the same
time, one MIGHT HAVE enough room to raise the assembly high enough to
replace the mounts..but.
