My Dad showed me this technique when I was 15 working on the 50 Chevy that was given to me by a neighbor. Nothing new and probably well known but if it's been posted before I haven't run across it yet so here it is.

I have a stash of gasket material but cereal cardboard or similar will work fine. Cut a piece larger than what you need. Place it on the area you want to make a gasket on and HOLD IT STILL while you TAP around the flanges with a ball pein hammer.

Don't hit hard...especially if the part is aluminum. After a bit, you will see the outline of the gasket.

You can either keep tapping until the excess falls off or use a knife or similar to cut out the lines.

After a little clean up you have a gasket.

It wasn't that I didn't want to order one from JimK for 4 bucks, it was the wait and shipping for a $2 part. Someday, sometime, you're going to need a gasket when everyone is closed. This approach works good, lasts a long time, costs next to nothing, and is fast. I have about 10 times longer in typing this thread than in making the gasket. Shocked
