so this is the first multinight camping trip since I bought it in 2008 due to being layed off, rebuilding engines, front ends etc

against all advice of everyone I rebuilt the engine at home with the help of a friend who is an extremely good builder( he did most of the work except for the machining.

The engine runs well, getting somewhere north of 9 mpg even with a very hilly highway 2 to traverse. our second fill calculates at 13 mpg, but I'm certain I under filled the tank. tomorrow morning will give a better average.

I checked the oil this morning and was down 1/2 a quart. It's hard to read the level the oil is so clear. I'm happy it's doing great for a new engine
Watching the Revs on my new dash mounted tach I get 2500 rpm at 60, pretty cool, looks like I have a 3.42 Final

the Mac bridge was fun, feeling the girl do the hula on the grates ( right lane closed for construction)

Were in Dearborn, just out of the Ford museum, pretty cool place, highly recommended.

Now, can someone stop the rain?
sheesh

Unfortunately, you only got advice from those that live in fear and that think an Olds 455 is some kind of mystical mechanism that only ordained priests are capable of rebuilding.

Sad that you got discouraged instead of encouraged, as many have rebuilt their own, but must have been afraid to speak up. There are those here that are very outspoken in their FUD spreading efforts, and they will say what they have to say to prevent anyone from trying.

Congrats on knowing better than the naysayers.

Keith,

It's too late to go into the museum now, so go there and spend the day. You have 18 acres of floor to cover but it won't be raining. If stay an extra day to walk the village, it will be dry there by then.

According to my local radar, you have just a few more brief showers this evening. That's a good thing because I have some stuff to do outside to get my coach ready for the weekend show.

OH I was trying to say we have been to the museum. we spent a good 5 hours there, just the inside, didn't go to Greenfield Village, the rest of the party isn't interested, ah well..

Tomorrow it's back up to Ignats starting the trek home
