According to Tire rack the minimum rim size for a 9.5 is 6.75", so if you are running stock 6" rims they won't fit.

9.5R16.5LT rim width range 6.75-8.25

I used to use 9:50x16.5 tires on the 76 Edgemont we had. Speedometer will be off about 6%.

Dave, the answer is yes.You can use 9.75 16.5 LT tires on your GMC. We run
them on our 1978 Palm Beach at 66 pounds. The only drawback is that when
you drop your air bags to dump, the tires will come into contact with the T
skirts.

We mounted the 9:50X16.5 tires on the stock 16.5 wheels. The tires didn't contact the wheel well with the suspension all the way down though it was very close. This was on a 76 Edgemont. Tires were Goodyear Wranglers.

Sounds like raise the air bags all the way up should give plenty of clearance. 50 careful miles is the ticket.

the forum is a combo of a mailing list (email) and a forum. I use the forum but I understand that if you post photo's they are not sent to the email users. you can upload photo's to any online site and link to them OR you can signup to the gmc photo site and store them there forever.

the gmc rims are hub centered not lug centered. so if you have lug centered rims you either have to have the cone shaped lug nuts to go with them or very very carefully center them with the flat lug nuts that are on the coach now. if your only trying to get the rig home I would go this route and go very slow and avoid the highways.
