I now have the wifi version of the iPad mini. Is there any way to get Streets and Trips on here. I bet not. Want the Black List on it.
Just asking.
Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
This might seem complicated. but I think it works pretty well once set up.
get on regular computer. get yourself set up with a "google drive" account. Upload the excel version of the blacklist, to your google drive.
then install google maps app on you apple device.
install google drive app on your apple device.
if you access the blacklist though the google drive app. you have the ability to select on the address, copy it. and then go over to google maps app and paste the address.
only good for one address at a time, and will not work really to see where different address are in relationship to each other. but will get you directions or see where someone on the black list is from your own location.
If you cannot get the blacklist to uplaod. but are successful in getting the google drive app installed, and signed in. let me know the email you used on the google drive, and I can always share the one I have uploaded.
this does remind me, I have to get that black list updated, have a couple to add/change.

Today, the Apple App store is ordering your choice of 5 apps for free. This is today only, July 10, 2013.
You can send the Excel spreadsheet to your iPad, in PDF format and open it just fine. Or, open in " numbers" Apple's spreadsheet program for the iPad. Get it at the App Store. I don't know if Numbers is included in the "free" apps today.

I think it is very hard to copy and paste the addresses out of the PDF. or the straight up excel(quickview) on the apple devices.
grabbing phone numbers works easily on iphone. but not selecting addresses out of pdf to copy.
if you just want to read the blacklist, opening it up in pdf or whatever is great. but when it comes to pulling an address off of it, and getting it over to the mapping programs, is what i had found to be difficult.
in google drive, I can select cell only. and copy everything in the cell. google maps is pretty good about figuring out what city/state that address is located in, or giving me a list of just a couple city/states to choose from.
I could be wrong, just what I thought I found.

Dan,
It's only available on line, AFAIK, but if that's sufficient, you can use
batchgeo.com. It's trivially easy to upload a list of names, addresses,
etc., and they're place marked on a map. Before starting this trip, I
uploaded the Black List and GMCMI for the states along my route. Worked
great, except for two limitations, entirely due to mky stinginess: the
free version will only accept 250 entries per map, and each must be
accessed at least every 60 days. I broke the files into somewhat logical
subsets, and I just log into th e maps they warn me are about to expire.
The paid version does not have those limitations.
I'll post the links to the Black list maps when I'm on a more dumb old user
friendly machine than this Nexus 10.

without my Black List, in any vehicle, on a trip. Will still Cary it on my
10 inch net book in case I need it. This iPad is just so handy. Had it a
week and only turn on computer for long emails now. Got a keyboard for this
iPad but too small. Will buy a larger full sized one in the future.

Well duh! Since Ken brought up online and Dan, you get online while cruizing down the road it occurs to me that there is this handy link
http://www.batchgeo.com/map/c08045cc78af2cf8890e90a57d497a63
not the same as having the Blacklist map in Streets off line which I can't live without. But pretty handy.

The 5 Year thing has been on for a couple of days and still good. The
only apps (not games) they offer is Barefoot World Atlas (must be huge
as my device has almost 2gb available and it won't load saying there
isn't enough space), Day One (Journal) Diary, How to Cook Everything (I
think they forgot poutine), Over (photo app), and Traktor DJ for iPhone
- I know you closet hipster DJs will be all over that.

Sir: the batch geo thing is good except it has not been updated since it was put up. I now have different contact info. I have not been able to find who started it or how to edit so I went lookin. Seems the map cannot be made to update without paying some crazy $$$. To update the free map you have to wipe all. and do it all over again.

yuk! I was afraid of that!
As I commented to Dan, updating is always a problem. With the orginal version, Excel, text, pdf and Streets types, a big job.
I surely prefer looking at a map to see whats around me than trying to find local towns on a list of a state I'm not familar with. But grateful for whatever help I can find.

My iPad and the blacklist were a godsend when our fuel pump went out on a trip west. I have one with a cellular connection, so the map geolocated us and gave us the name of the closest member who was amazingly helpful. Thanks, again, to Blaine Merrrill and the ole Hoosier Hillbilly! Also to TJ in St. Louis.
