I put a light on the clutch for my AC compressor, cause I like to know what things are doing
So I ran it for the first time on a moderately hot day, like 85 degrees for a good 30-50 minutes. I was driving 40-50 mph most of the time.
I never once saw the compressor cycle off.
Does this indicate a bad, or weak compressor?
I have a trip coming up in 3 weeks and I want cold air dang it!

Hard to beleve it wouldn't cycle, seems thats an indication it never reached full pressure...

Cycling clutch compressor started in 77 for GM. It will only cycle on cooler days on a low fan setting to prevent freeze up. At 85 you probably had blower on 3 or Hi. Wouldn't cycle in that case. If earlier build coach it never cycles. Valving controls evap temp. If you have R12 you can check for a clear (Liquid) site glass with it running. Not valid test with HC12. I doubt the compressor is 'weak', they usually get replaced due to noise.

Yes it is the 75 GMC, not cycling is completely counter intuitive, I guess I have something new to learn!
Thanks!

If the freon is at the right pressure and you get cold air (55dg at vent) then I would say you good.
If pressure is good, but get little cooling then you have moisture in the line and it is freezing in the Expansion Value, that will cause the the Compressor to keep running.
