I'm looking at doing repairs to my awning slat that recieves the awning fabric and plastic rod. I ran across a airstream web site of someone showing how to reshape the recieving slat with a drill bit and a small hand held anvil. I'm just not sure of what the plastic fabric rod diameter should be?? Anyone can help with that?

I will try to remember to get this information.

if you call up zip dee, and tell them what you are doing, they might send you a sample.

they mailed me a 3" long aluminum piece with the fabric in it, when I was trying to figure out how to mount my used awning.

I am pretty sure i tossed the sample in the garbage.

Jon,

Thanks for your reponse. I'm going to try to call Zip Dee on this, thanks for the number.
I did take the awning down and removed 2 slats. My hope is that I'll be able to reform the damaged one so that I can interchange the good slat with the repaired one and interchange their positions in the clam shell cover. I hope I can get this to work. Wish me luck.

ok, here is a picture.
http://www.lqqkatjon.blogspot.com/

looks to be about 1/4 inch. the piece in the slat is slightly smaller then the piece that goes into the awning rail.

what piece is damaged? and how is it damaged?

This pertains to the awnings that use the fabric "flex key" to hold the awning to the coach awning rail:

The end slat (one that holds the fabric piece between coach awning rail, and awning), is different then the other slats. Each side is the same. where the other slats, have one larger "C" and a smaller "C".

The end slats, each side "C" is about the same, if not the same.

so if your end slat is damaged, you are in trouble with that, if it cannot be repaired.

if it is one of the middle slats that is damaged, then any of the other slats would fit in place of the others.

you can get any of the pieces from Zip dee if needed. I bought a complete end slat, and a bran new fabric piece, for $151.07. but that was picked up in chicago, not shipped. They cannot ship a full length slat, economically.

Looking at mine though, you might be able to get them to cut the end slat in 1/2, and ship it in two pieces. but I am not sure how well that will work long term. You could ask them.

Darn, yes it's the last slat. Was hoping they were innerchangable. Well heck, I see what I can do to form it back into shape then. Appreciate the information.
