One of our members sent a bunch of info off line about the stock hard and flex lines running from the oil filter adapter to the radiator and asked for more details about where I placed the external coolers, etc. Here is my response:

"Thanks for the enlightening info. Both the 77 Clasco and our 78 Royale have 455 engines and both used after market flex lines from the adapter to the radiator. The Royale had Earls AN fittings and hoses while the Clasco had Parker. On the Royale both ends were 90 degree while on the Clasco the radiator end was 90 but the adapter end was 45. I replaced those lines with 90s at both ends on one hose and a 90 and straight on the other (to attach directly to the external cooler). The other side of the external cooler goes directly to a 90 at the radiator with a short piece of flex hose for vibration isolation.

I mounted the fan assisted external engine oil cooler just to the passenger side of the radiator. I moved the battery tray outboard so the hot air from the cooler would not blow onto the battery. A piece of insulating material sits between the cooler and the battery from behind the cooler to the side of the headlight bucket to act as an air deflector. Another piece of insulating material fits from the front edge of the radiator back to the mounting tower. Those two direct the air flow from the grill into both the radiator and the external oil cooler on the passenger side. I added a drivers side air deflector very much like the factory unit on the 78 Royale and the external transmission cooler is a passive unit attached in front of the radiator at the bottom on the right side right above the rock guard. It will see plenty of ram air flow while under way."

In both cases the oil goes to the radiator cooler first and then to the external coolers as the manufacturer (B&M in this case) recommends in their literature. When I called them, they said it really didn't matter. Ken H. suggested running the engine oil to the radiator first to add a little water heat when it is very cold. The way the engine oil cooler is mounted, it will be easy to block some of the ram air flow for use in really cold weather.
