OK, I have my air compressor for a total outlay of $50 for a Craigslist 1HP motor. Free rebuilt two stager, free 65 gallon tank. I can't afford Chicago Pneumatic stuff, and I will use tools maybe three times a year... where do I look for cheeeep air tools? Need impact wrench, grinder/cutter, sander, etc.

Check Walmart. They usually carry a lot of different Chicago Pneumatic tools.

Johnny,
Chicago Pneumatic are cheap air tools along with Harbor Freight. They are about the lowest prices that you will find. If you are a limited user then do as Bruce points out. But it is really buyer beware on those types of air tools.
Harbor Freight is really inexpensive as compared to Snap On and other major brands.

Unless you're a professional Mechanic then these tools work well for most. I have always gotten the few dollars that I have spent on these tools back. If they break, I go get another one and they do have short term warrantees. If you don't like HF tools thats OK but for some that are limited users the price is right!

I bought a Chicago Electric "double-cut" 5" circular saw
at Harbor Freight a few days back and with a few of the
little multi-LED trouble lights that brought the total up
over $50, I got a Central Pneumatic 3" High Speed Air

That's a switch. When I was a kid at the local factory summers (60s) CP made top of the line air tools. I'll have a look. I'm with you, things get used three times a year if that. Cheep from the Heathen Chinee will work fine.

as far as grinders, cutter and sanders, I'd get electric ones not air. your compressor is too small to run em.

Good advice. I started out with cheap air tools from Costco. The didn't have sufficient power and they didn't last. I have since upgraded to Craftsman air tools and even they are a compromise. I am always envious of the top quality name brand air tools my mechanic friend uses in his shop. He would probably toss my Craftsman tools in the trash. Like any other power tool, buy the best you can afford and live with the consequences when you don't.

Hi Johnny: I have a 1" air impact that I use on the big trucks and it requires a 1/2" air line from the compressor. I found that the 1/2 drive air tools work better initally with the bigger air line to break loose big bolts. IMO a good investment. I also would advise a ratty looking old IR air gun over any new residential grade.

Yeh, it's a Quincy Compressor 820 - was just rebuilt and never installed when WSB tore down their studio building and built another. It was the building HVAC air supplier (all pneumatic controls). I got it new on the shipping pallet. Since it's a 1HP, I put a 2 1/2 inch pulley on the motor. It ain't gonna be fast, but a 65 gal tank at 140 PSI will take a wheel off.

Congrats on a good air compressor. At least I hope it is good, two stage makes it better than most. One HP is a little low for working air tools hard. You will have to be patient on some occasions. CCV (Cheap Chinese Version) tools look a lot like CP and Ingersol but they use twice the air to do about three quarters the work. So, for something like GMC lugnuts, just buy the bigger impact and be ready to wait a while.

mac what does that mean hell-for - stout please. They are on sale now which one should i get for the gmc.
110 or 24 volt. my onan doesn't work yet. but would the 24 volt do a tire change with the foot pounds on the gmc.
I need a four foot breaker bar first right then the imipact driver.
