[GMCnet] Which inverter to get? [message #213030] Tue, 02 July 2013 12:58 Go to next message
Anonymous   United States

I'm going through the systems today and the Inverter is only putting out
9 volts. Rather than trying to resurrect a dinosaur I just want to
replace it with something new. What's the best thing out there today?
The old one is a Magnetek 950-2 50 Amp.

Thanks
Brian

Brian,

I think you're talking about the CONverter. The INverter takes 12 voit DC and makes 115 volt AC out of it.

What you want to get is a multi stage battery charger/converter like a Progressive Dynamics, Iota, Xantrax, etc.

I have a PD 9245 that I really like. It is plug and play and you don't have to worry about overcharging your batteries. Others will have different opinions, but this is the unit Jim Bounds recommended when I first got my coach. It has now given me nearly five years of trouble free service.

Yep you're right Convertor. I'll do some searching.

I'll pile on and give my own two thumbs up for the PD9245. Smaller, lighter, and MUCH better than the buzz box. It's one of the best things you can do to your coach for the money, even if your buzz box still works. I went through the receipts on my coach, and see where the previous owners were replacing batteries every year or two (since the buzz box boils 'em dry if you leave it on shore power for any length of time).

Progressive Dynamics, with the battery minder, works well.

One reason that a 45 is good choice is because you can run it on a small Honda 1k generator. If you get a larger one it may draw more juice than a small generator can deliver. I too run the same as Carl. I used to run a Kipor 1k so that's why I got it. No longer run a generator so does not matter.
