Part of this question was just posted and answered but we just want to make sure we understand it correctly. We also have several other related questions.

We just removed the buzz box. We had to cut the negative ground as we just couldn't see how to get it out without cutting it. We cut it near the buzz box so we have a fairly long cable left for the negative connection for the new Progressive Dynamics PD9260.

Please see the two images to help with the following questions.

We need to run a separate ground from the ground lug of the charger/converter. What size wire should that be? Should it be fairly heavy? We have extra 8 gauge wire we could use.

In the first photo below, number 1 lug is the negative lug on the aluminum body that was the buzz box ground and will be the output negative ground on the new converter. There is another ground connection in the image, number 2, a short distance from number 1. Can we use that to connect the separate ground from the ground lug on the new converter or does it have to be further away from the output negative ground connection (number 1)?

For the short distance these two separate grounds are running and ending up basically at the same spot on the body why is this so important?

The second question has to do with mounting the new converter inside the electrical compartment. The mounting instructions for the Progressive Dynamics PD9260 states that horizontal mounting is preferred but any other way is OK. We'd like to mount the converter as we show it in the next image. We'd screw it to the back wall of the cabinet using the three mounting areas on the converter. Basically, the converter will be upside down. Does anyone know of a reason this is NOT a good idea?

For those that don't know exactly where these grounding connections are behind the electric closet the number 2 connection in the two photos are the same. Once our buzz box was removed we could see all the body ground connections. They are reachable depending on ones dexterity. The number 3 connection is the rear battery junction joining the house batteries, boost cable running to the front engine battery and the positive to the 12V fuse panel.

Thanks in advance to everyone for your help and comments.

hook it up just the way the buzz box was (worked for 40 years)

would not put it on the rear wall, one day you will have to get in there

I mounted my Progressive vertically on the electrical cabinet wall, next to fuse box. I have a ground running back to the body where the buzz box was. Should be a plug n play swap out.

It is about the cooling of the device
Cooling works best if it is horizontal ( not upside down)
Importance of this depends on how much power you draw from it

My PD9145 has hung upside down under a kitchen drawer for 8-9 years. The
only time it's complained was when the power company put 220+ vac across
it. They bought the replacement.
