"GMC base Orlando, the Clasco has landed"
We just pulled into our driveway safe and sound. 3400 miles with only a couple of glitches, one bone head move and an inconvenience. We finally had one short vapor lock issue, no more than 15 seconds, which was solved by a quick flip of the electric fuel pump switch, so I have to conclude that either buying known brand fuel, adding an ethanol conditioner, or the large front mounted fuel filter did the trick. We were in near to post 100 degree heat the whole way with high humidity in the east and dry in the west. We were from sea level to nearly 5000 feet with some quite steep climbs along the way.
The glitches were a fan clutch that decided not to work properly (replaced in Arizona) and a $.50 clip ring in the transmission that broke on the first one and was missing on the second one. What are the odds of that. Same part the culprit in both transmissions. The bone head move was driving about 30 to 40 miles over very steep hills in really hot weather with the e-brake on. The brakes seem to work fine after they cooled down but I will do the examination, bearing re-lube and change of fluids to make sure. The inconvenience was that with the bum fan clutch we could not run the dash air without danger of overheating all the way across from Florida to Arizona. Then, a few days ago the dash air just decided not to work at all. The compressor clutch does not engage. No power to the pressure switch so I suspect a bad ground somewhere down stream but did not find it before we headed the last 500 miles from Santa Cruz, CA, to Kerby, OR. "Oh, we will just run the generator
and the roof air".......wrong. The generator which had worked flawlessly all the way decided to sputter and quit under the load so it would not work for that purpose today. Go figure. Could be clogged fuel filters or ?????
Anyway, it certainly is possible to do successful long distance work in a GMC - even one that is unknown to you starting out. It helps a bunch if it has been well maintained and it helps a bunch to have one of our premium vendors do a once over before you start. It also helps a bunch to know that all our other premium vendors are there for you if you really need them.
Even before we left on this memorable GMC adventure we made the decision to make the vendors the focus of the upcoming three GMC club rally at Coos Bay, Oregon the first week in October. They will have special parking right adjacent to all the RV park activities and where everyone going to or coming from the hotel ball room where the seminar and eating events will take place will walk right down vendor row. Our vendors will also have prime indoor space if they wish as well. On Sunday morning the vendors will have a chance to do live demos to show off their latest and best offerings. On Sunday afternoon we will have coach open houses. The regional press and Coos Bay locals will be invited as well so we just might be able to create some enthusiasm among potential new buyers.
If you have not yet sent in your registration form (download from any of the three sponsoring GMC club web sites (Western States, Cascaders or 49ers) and rally payment, be sure to do so soon. We are now inside the 90 day window. While we have not yet had time to count the registrations that arrived while we were on this cross country GMC adventure, remember that there are only 100 full hook up sites but unlimited immediately adjacent dry camping so plenty of room for all. The first 100 paid registrations will also receive a special commemorative piece Sharon and I have commissioned to be made by Santa Cruz, CA, metal artist Serene Silva.
So, get those registrations coming! See you there.

Glad you made it home Jerry. I know you have a lot of work to do on the upcoming rally. When I brought my coach home, in 2010, it was on Jeff Sirum's advice to get in and drive. We only experienced one fuel filter failure. Jeff's reassurance helped make for a memorable trip.
