Previous symptom was that it produced 70 volts instead of 120. Replaced the bridge rectifier. Same symptom. Left the geni running for a bit checking effect of engine speed on voltage. Then the voltage dropped to zero... or actually 0.5 volts. Removed the rectifier and tested with multimeter with diode tester. Still good.

Page 40 of the maintenance manual says I should see 38 ohms between F1 and F2... I see 0. Does this mean a short inside the windings or is that test only valid with the armature removed?

Time for yard work so stopped messing for now.
